how is that going to help anyone? We cannot choose where we are when irresponsible people take to the roads..

I don't think I worded that very well....sorry in a hurry. I meant that I would like to place a warning somewhere on MSE that one needs to make sure the GP has completed the necessary paperwork immediately and ask for an emergency appointment. I mean, a person could lose his / her job as a result of having had a licence revoked.

Glad the OP has got it sorted.

No doubt the DVLA weren't as quick at processing the issue as they were in revoking the license.

It is also possible that the friend referred to is a still a better risk than loads of the muppets on the road that IMO should not be thereregardless of age or health.

Speed does not kill. Inappropriate speed does.
Interesting splitting of hairs when were I think talking about a speed of 132 feet per second with a total mass in straight line motion of perhaps 3000lbs. Unless you drive a racing car then I know that we are talking straight lines here - otherwise 90mph would be on the edge and chances are you wouldn't be here to argue the toss ...

The real questions are surely along these lines:
    "Can I stop it?"
    "Can I alter the trajectory?"
"What's happening or already happened where my tyres meet the road?"
"Are my brakes up to this?"
    "Am I up to this?"
"Overall is this not a bit inappropriate?"
Unfortunately, between 70mph and 90mph these questions might double in importance, or it might be worse than that if you aren't able to formulate such questions yourself as you drive.

I think that's why "Speed kills" ... unfortunately

^^ "speed kills" because it's convenient...

It makes money, it's easy to Police and it doesn't require the expensive training of traffic cops.

All the statistics over the years have been bent/altered to fit this, it's just as bad as "global warming" but on much smaller scale. It's very simple to do, speed is involved in every accident, if the vehicles were stationary there would be no accident. Just write this into a report and say "speed kills".
But in an interesting twist, it's been shown that elderly drivers are twice as likely to injure a pedestrian as any other group (but don't the elderly drive slowly?)

There are hundreds of links, i've just selected one at random

Simple case of brainwash the nation and watch the cash roll in.

Can't say I agree with either viewpoint fully r.e speed kills. I accept that a person with good experience and judgement (not you strider incase you're wondering) can travel at 90-100mph in the right conditions in a safer manner than an inexperienced/nervous/idiotic driver can do at 50mph in a 70 limit. The problem is that the two types and everyone inbetween can't share the same bit of road without coming into contact now and then, with a 95mph bump being rather severe in most cases.

Maintaining current limits and actual traffic policing rather than cameras is the real answer. I have certainly been glad of being stopped by an officer as opposed to getting a letter through the post on one or two occasions.
