Warning: driving licence revoked for no reason!

Mr B has never damaged another car, never had a speeding ticket,
and has not even had a parking ticket after driving for almost 50 years. He is also in excellent health.

DVLA asked him to fill a form in five months after he had a minor accident in which nobody was injured. This form was returned to DVLA.

He then received a phone call from his GP, whom he never visits, to say that DVLA had requested that he had a medical examination. Mr B was unable to keep this first appointment because of work commitments, so he informed DVLA of this and again booked the earliest available appointment. The GP needed to see him a second time, so again he informed DVLA and booked the earliest available appointment. The GP wrote to DVLA to inform them that Mr B is in good health, and naturally we thought that was the end of the matter.

This week Mr B received a letter from DVLA informing him that his licence had been revoked for "non-compliance"! When he phoned them he was told that they did not receive the GP's letter in time.

This is completely unreasonable: he was unable to rush the process through any quicker and had it been that urgent they would not have taken 5 months to contact him about it, would they?

I cannot drive, neither can I do out unless Mr B takes me, so it is very inconvenient to put it mildly. After his licence is reinstated we will be taking this further.......

And how many accidents has he witnessed in his rear view mirror?

Not to be "funny", but plenty of people can claim to never have had an accident and it's damn hard to get speeding ticket if you only ever drive at 25mph.
He may not have done anything "wrong", but he may well have caused some serious road chaos with people who have places to go and don't have all week to get there.
Someone has probably made a complaint, maybe cyclists/pedestrians, an off duty Police officer or a local councillor. Nobody would take much notice of just another driver.

Also, if you want to save money..... Get rid of the car and use a Taxi. Would you do enough journeys to clock up more than say £80 a week in taxi fares? if not then a taxi is a cheaper option, because running a car costs anything from £65 a week and up.

You did not read my post - there is nothing wrong with my husband or his driving, and nobody reported anything. He did not get the form back in time!! I just wanted to warn other people.

By the way our car has been increasing in value only cost us £100 per month to run.

    So who's fault is that?
How long did you expect the DVLA to wait?

I'm surprised people are taking the MrsB s problem so flippantly, her Oh has done nothing but fail to get a form in on time, we don't know whether her husband has done any wrong or not. If as been suggested he's left a trail of destruction behind him it's for the police to take action before he should lose his licence, whatever his age that's irrelevant, if the Gp has passed him as fit it seems someone at the Dvlc is being a bit to keen.

Without having seen this person drive you are making some outrageous assumptions about the OP's husband and his driving ability.
