£260 a month and up? What kind of tank are you driving? Our car costs £140 a month, that's insurance, service, maintenance, MOT, tax and diesel. 15 miles each way commute 3-4 days a week plus going out at weekends and doing shopping and visiting family. A monthly bus pass is £80, so our car is even cheaper than the bus.

Looks like you forgot one of the largest cost of car ownership, depreciation

Looking on the whatcar.com website they state an estimated cost to run a car for the first 3 years including fuel, servicing, depreciation and tax (but not insurance) and the cheapest new small car costs 26p a mile. Hence 1000 miles a month equals £260+ per month. Most family cars are more than 40p a mile.

Well, saying as the next driver is 48, and the other one is 27, maybe it the motorways we should close, as that's the only common factor.
For every "pensioner has an accident" story, there's going to be a lot more "non pensioner has a similar accident" story.

Wasn't the 48 yr old drug related? and the 27 was I heard (unless there was another 27 yr old) a foreign national.

(By the way, you never answered the question on your accident, so are we all right in assuming you've now lost your ncd?)

What's the point in answering? if you don't hear what you want to hear, you'll dismiss it anyway......
FYI my ins company is seeking payment from hers, but she is still delaying as much as possible it would seem, her accident report was a total work of fiction (proven by the video), she even claimed to have been stationary in a queue and that I drove off the kerb into her stationary car.
I responded to her report within days and as yet no response to my accident report has been received from her (and it's been over 9 months).

It really isn't hard to work out what a car costs to own and run - and it isn't cheap.

    For me:

    Toyota Mr2 mk3
    Car cost £2.5k
Expected worth in 1 year approx £2-2.25k I would say, lets say 2

    Per month £41.66

Fuel £150 / month 600 work miles + personal miles at the weekends
    Tax £220 / yr £18.33 / month
    MOT £50 / yr £ 4.16

Servicing (by me) approx £80 a year £6.67 month
Tyres lets say new set every 2 years £300 - per month £12.50
Repairs I would say average out at about £25 / month
I also end up buying bits and peices for it that arent strictly neccesary but wont include them

    Insurance £450 a year £37.50
    Breakdown £6.50 a month

total £303.32 / month or about £70 a week - I admit I don't drive an eco box but it gives far from the worst fuel economy and certainly doesn't need alot of work doing.

Yet he collided with somebody. There is a serious problem with his driving. I would advise contacting an approved driving instructor for advice.

It's called forum irony. Google "Mr T" and compare the name with "Mr B".

The letter of "non compliance" means that you didn't do what you were told. Are your husband's "work commitments" more important than his driving licence? If I were in the same boat, I would have taken a day's leave / sick absence to attend that vital medical appointment if it meant keeping my licence.

You had the chance to comply, but you messed about.

On that basis there must be a serious problem with thousands of drivers out there! I collided with someone in September 2009. It wasn't my fault and it was settled very quickly by the insurance companies in my favour, but using your criteria there is a serious problem with my driving.

That's absolutely true. Most of them drive around the city where I work; most unlicenced, uninsured and totally incompetent to wipe their own !!!!!!, let alone control a motor vehicle.

There is a difference between you colliding with somebody and somebody colliding with you.

If they collided with you, they're at fault. If you collided with somebody, that somebody could be at fault in certain circumstances such as (but not limited to) changing lanes without observation giving you no chance to react in time. In most cases, however, you would be at fault. Your insurance company would have investigated the circumstances at the time and settled accordingly. Good for you.

As for other circumstances, an advanced driver should be able to anticipate other drivers' actions to prevent a collision even where their actions are erroneous. Those who drive "blinkered" do indeed have a problem with their driving.

    In every situation?
