Maybe I have posted this in the wrong place. I wanted to warn other people that this can happen.

Why did somebody send a picture of a black man? What is going on?

warn other people of what ? driving licences being cancelled ? they dont cancel them for a reason unless due to an error but they may be few and far between

But this is the DVLA we are talking about, which has a bit of history, c o c k up wise
they dont cancel them for a reason unless due to an error but they may be few and far between

Tell that to all the people who sent of licenses for renewal only to find new one didn't have same category of vehicle listed when it came back as when it was sent and had to re-take tests etc since the DVLA never makes any errors !!

Lets all pick on the new forum member who's been upset by DVLA and decided to dare post about it.

Bet your mothers are all really proud of you.

And how many accidents has he witnessed in his rear view mirror?

Not to be "funny", but plenty of people can claim to never have had an accident and it's damn hard to get speeding ticket if you only ever drive at 25mph.
He may not have done anything "wrong", but he may well have caused some serious road chaos with people who have places to go and don't have all week to get there.
Someone has probably made a complaint, maybe cyclists/pedestrians, an off duty Police officer or a local councillor. Nobody would take much notice of just another driver.

Also, if you want to save money..... Get rid of the car and use a Taxi. Would you do enough journeys to clock up more than say £80 a week in taxi fares? if not then a taxi is a cheaper option, because running a car costs anything from £65 a week and up.

First bold...leave earlier if you don't want to be late, not hard to work out really!

Second bold...£65 a week? Maybe if your doing loads of miles, I'm currently doing around 1,000 a month, which is average I believe and it costs me maybe £70 a month for fuel.
What is pi? Where did it come from?

All well and good, but since Strider said "to run a car" per week which of course factors in fuel as well as tax and insurance it isn't an unreasonable figure.

  • some posters here need to come down off that high horse. too many opinions and not much in the way of advice.

mrsB this is the right sub forum but as you can see motoring is riddled with people who are just interested in getting their opinion in rather looking to help out a situation.

i would contact the DVLA and seek to appeal, the license has been revoked on a technicality rather than any evidence.

DVLA asked him to fill a form in five months after he had a minor accident in which nobody was injured. This form was returned to DVLA.

Since your husband's doctor knew nothing about the minor accident, it must have been the police who contacted DVLA.

The police will have "expressed concerns" to DVLA about your husband's fitness to drive. There is a standard police form for reporting medical concerns. Was your husband belligerent in any way with the attending officers?

It's unfortunate that DVLA subsequently lost the form submitted by your husband, but this is nothing unusual. Crapita plc (trading as DVLA) more often than not blunders. Losing crucial paperwork, and then blaming the motorist for the loss, is standard operating procedure for Crapita.

During a licence update, Crapita lost all evidence of my entitlement to ride a motorcycle. I was told I would have to take my motorcycle test(s) again, after passing the test more than 20 years before.

Let us hope that DVLA does allow your husband to continue driving. What is the nature of the concerns? Did he confide something about his health to the attending police officers? Did he blackout? Does he have a notifiable illness, such as diabetes, depression, or a heart condition? Is he on problematic medications?

Crapita has managed to get the Drivers' Medical Group of DVLA into an even worse mess than it has made of most other units of the Agency. This is often through inappropriate cost-cutting.

For example, the clinical-based determination of whether to revoke, refuse or renew a licence on medical grounds is being routinely performed by non-medically trained decision-makers.

Crapita has also outsourced much of the DVLA's functions to India. It is possible that DVLA medical decision-makers are based there, rather than in the UK where they would cost more.

Paper forms submitted by the general public are scanned into the DVLA's document archival system here in the UK. Those documents are then transferred electronically to India and elsewhere, for processing. In that multi-stage process, paperwork can and does go missing.
