No, I said that my Desire HD couldn't do it. Which was certainly the case. I know full well that other android handsets can do it...but that's somewhat the point. It's always "this handset can do this...that firmware can do that...you just need to root it to this".
It may be that things have been fixed subsequently, as Cerro suggests, it may be that I had a particularly poor firmware, whatever...
My point was purely that the Desire HD, for me, had some really irritating glitches that ruined the user experience.
Right, but the Desire HD, which I was talking about, doesn't have one at all...dulcificum wrote: »But all Android phones with front cameras can do proper video calls and aren't crippled by a stupid wifi requirement.
I thought it was obvious, but for the sake of clarity...my comments were purely about my experience of the Desire HD...not about *all android phones*...0 -

According the the thread you linked, that's not true at all. it says only when they are missing the + or the 00 it doesn't work...0 -

From that link
"Cannot reply to sms - it removes the + on +44 numbers!"
You're not so down with the reading, are you?0 -

The old Android OS is much better than the current iPhone OS and it's much easier to upgrade. You think you get anything new upgrading iPhone OS?!
In YOUR opinion.
There is no need to be so aggressive.
This is supposed to be a friendly forum
Ok, we get that you don't like Apple, iPhones or IOS, but trying to ram your opinions down other people throat isn't going to work. You can't force people to accept your point of view.
You have made your point very clear. It's up to each person to make their own mind up

On the Apple V Android debate. I have to say I love apple products and find it really intuitive to use, i love the aps and think its a great phone and would love an iphone (my OH has one which is how I can compare). However when it came to changing mine I had to do a bit of a moneysaving mantra.
The reality was I couldn't justify the cost of upgrading to the iphone when i could do the android cheaper and save over £120 at least over the year. I got the samsung galaxy and in fairness despite a few glitches with it which i've fixed it does what i need plus the free sat nav app it came with (uses google maps) work really well and has saved me buying a new one for my car which was a bonus. :-)2013 Free Money - £363.44 Topcashback
2014 Free Money - £59.84 Topcashback
2015 Free Money (so far) - £186.33 Topcashback0 -
Picked up a Samsung Galaxy S 2 and have to say it is very very good. The Sat nav software as it stands needs a data connection but Google are in the process of updating it so there is no need for a connection so it will indeed be a true sat nav.
As for iOS and Android, Apple is no better than Android, it can't do anything more and if you look at connectivity Android wins hands down, file sharing and the ability to have a different device be that a big one, small or small one etc.
Apple Market their products better that's all there is to it. If you look at their last OS release what have they got in there that came from other OS? Drop down notification etc. Apple are now playing catch up with everyone else even more than what they had been doing before.
Some people keep going on about apps. What can you have app wise on Apple that you can't on Android? Transit,News,Shopping,Games etc etc, there is VERY little difference. It also works the same with the tablets, why is an oversized iPod or iPhone better than any other tablet? In the words of Steve Jobs, it comes down to apps!
I can't wait to see WebOS on a phone from HTC, now not many Apple users will know what that is but it's much much better than Android and Apple in many ways and when you see the multi tasking on it you will see why Android and Apple can not multi task.0 -

I don't think it's a case of better marketing is "all there is to it", actually. I think it's a good product...Whether it's the best or not, the iPhone is undeniably a very good handset. A good indicator is to ask people the question "if the price points were the other way round, would you still be buying an Android?". Odds on, people would be saying "the iPhone does more or less everything the Android handset can do...and it's cheaper!"
Actually, a some people would be saying "spend a little more - and get rid of itunes!" - with which I have sympathy...and some would be saying "get android - SWYPE!" (surprised that's the first time that's been mentioned on this thread...swype was the best thing about android for me)...but I think most impartials would be saying that the iPhone was the way forward. Some people are religiously anti-apple (I know, I've been there), others will desperately want a feature that one of the android phones has....but for the most part it's just the high price point that really makes people consider things other than the iPhone.0 -

Why is the iPhone the way forward? I'm not anti Apple, i feel that the iPhone is no longer a product that sets the mark. Video calling, done way before the iPhone, drop down notification bar, on Android a long time before this week. You can't share files, you can't drag and drop, you can't choose a different screen size, you can't choose Qwerty or touchscreen. That is no way a revolution in selling a phone. The first iPhone was the way forward. Now they are stuck where they began as no new phone or tablet from them has brought new features. Unless the next iPhone is truly spectacular and sticking an 8 megapixel camera and dual core processor, in it won't cut the mark.0 -
I am constantly having the day to day debate about android vs apple every day, I work in a High Street phone store and the vast majority of handsets which I sell are Iphones.
Not just the 4 but the 3gs also. When I sell android phones there are always problems with them in some shape or form. Iphones imo are the most reliable handsets on the market today. Personally I feel that android is needing to catch up with apple in the apps available and especially the quality of them. Im constantly reading bout malware issues because of androids open source software and there are also too many handsets which support different versions of android and so some apps are incompatible.
Apple is consitent in evey aspect of it's business model and this is why it is the number one seller in the marketplace worldwide today.0 -

With respect, working in a sales role for a phone company doesn't place you with the expert view.
Apps mean nothing to how good an OS is and in any case, Android and Apple have the same more or less. You may also find that Android is out selling iOS in huge numbers and year on year growth is out selling iOS.
Apple set the stage with the first phone, now they are behind in many ways.0
