iPhone 3GS or Android Phone
I am considering getting the free iphone 3GS from o2 . £21.50 pm 100 mins 500 texts, 500 mb. I am not a heavy texter / caller so the allowances are fine. I'll use wi-fi to connect to the internet at home.
I appreciate the 3GS is a couple of years old now, but do quite fancy an iPhone but can’t justify the Phone 4 expense. Before I take the plunge are their any Android phones on a similar contract that you think I ought to consider?

Samsung Galaxy S II would be my choice if you want a new phone - its likely to be faster than the iphone 3gs - cheapest I have seen it is £26 a month - likely to come down in price sooner than any iphone 4 or 5.0

Cheers.
Available on O2 on the same contracts as the 3GS but with a £29 upfront cost, via Dial a Phone.
Could be an option0 -
The 3GS is an excellent phone - I've had one for the last year or so. If you want a phone to do everything really well then choose the iPhone. If you want a phone to be a little more complicated & less stable choose Android *waits for iPhone haters to react

My wife has an Android & whilst they are pretty good, the operating system is very quickly out of date as Android phones are being introduced at a massive rate so a new one today will be yesterdays model within months.
The fact that the iPhone 3GS will be getting the IOS 5 update is great news as it means it will continue to be supported by Apple for at least another couple of years.
All in all I would recommend the 3GS

Do you have any expeience with the Iphone 4 or would you reccomend that in the same light?0 -
A comparably priced Android phone will be a much better phone, no doubt.
But why not just buy the phone on PAYG and use GG or similar? You'll save tons over a contract.0 -

Recently upgraded to the iPhone 4 & I find it brilliant. I don't want to be messing around with a phone rooting & modding it as a lot of Android users do, so the iPhone is ideal.
It works straight out of the box, text messaging is really good, easy to use & there is an app for almost anything
I'm not trying to say Android phones are not as good, I just prefer an iPhone, & no I'm not a huge Apple fan.

Thanks for replies so far.
I do currently have a Pulse on Android 1.5 () which i cannot upgrade without rooting. This is annoying as some games / apps don't work. It is also not that stable - especially the browser provided (opera is better).
I appreciate this is a basement Android phone; but my experience has been mixed.
I am swaying towards the 3GS - not sure whether iOS 5 will be worthwhile for a 3GS as some functionality may not work - I'll wait and see on that.0 -
