iPhone 3GS or Android Phone

I've used both Android and iOS. I personally wouldn't get a 3GS over a newer Android handset. I own DHD and I love it. I have a tendency to get bored with my phones but I can completely customise this one when I get bored, I sold my 3GS after six months because there's not a lot you can do with it in terms of true customization. I find the OS too locked down for my tastes. The 3GS is also expensive still for what it is, considering the HTC Wildfire is better spec. Plus it's two years old, I couldn't see anyone spending so much money on an outdated and under speced product.
Apple products while they "just work" are grossly over prices in comparison to the majority of Android handsets, plus with Android there's so much more hardware to choose from.
I would go for Android personally, not because Apple products are rubbish but because this is a money saving forum and I prefer something cheaper that can do more.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).

I have no experience using Apple but I have used HTC and unfortunately have had a very bad experience with HTC which seems to me is the only way im forming my opinion at the moment (yes I know there is other hardware avaliable)
I have used both Android & Apple's IOS & personally I prefer the Apple system.
I can personalise an iPhone as much as I want to - I use it as a phone, to check emails, browse internet, play the odd game, for the occasional photo & use the alarm clock & calendar & it does all the things I want very well.
I don't have the time to spend hours rooting & modding & personalising it so the iPhone suits me & I don't think I have been ripped off, just like people who buy expensive cars don't - it's all about choice
I would never tell someone not to buy an Android phone, because everyone is different & has different wants & needs, some prefer things more straightforward & slick like the iPhone & others prefer a more open, customisable experience which you get with Android.
Let's stop the tit-for-tat & just enjoy whatever smartphone we choose :A

It *really* does. You just have no idea what you're talking about, do you?
Consider reading through

before peddling lies on any other forums...
What Apple call "autofocus" is not the autofocus on the Desire HD. You have to tap to focus, the Desire HD focuses on whatever is in front of it WITHOUT having to touch anything! The iPhone does not have that feature.
What if you do link contacts? Nothing... it's exactly the same, you are basing your opinion on an old version which has long since been corrected. So you can stop peddling lies on forums! It's like saying the iPhone 4 has signal problems if you hold it a certain way... it's no longer the true.
Aidy FYI - Android updates are pushed to your phone by your provider. No rooting required and no need to connect to a computer (iPhones will only do this after IOS5). And these updates are not pushed out that often as they are dependant on your provider, they need to approve the release to their version of the phone. If you root your phone you bypass this process altogether and move away from the providers branding, letting you choose the features you want (some images will unlock features - it depends on who made the image).
Any phone that plays an MP3 is an "iPod".Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0 -

Appreciate your sentiments, however even the Desire comes out around £20 pm when I looked. Do you have any cheaper recommendations for highish spec Android phones? cheers0 -

Yes. It does. Seriously. You point the camera at something. It focuses on it. Automatically. You can press to change focal depth if you want, but it does *autofocus* if you don't. OMG.
Oh, what version was it fixed in? Didn't know that about the iPhone, either - mine still sucks if you hold it with your left hand...What if you do link contacts? Wow, didn't realise it was so contentious and passionate!! thanks for all comments so far, some are really useful.
Think i will be going 3GS - main reasons are built in ipod, smoother screen functionality, and the fact Android keeps adding new OS too quickly, that you cannot add unless you root your phone.
Android has built-in mp3 player too except it has more space for cheaper than an iPhone and is a much much better player.
The old Android OS is much better than the current iPhone OS and it's much easier to upgrade. You think you get anything new upgrading iPhone OS?!0 -

Pull your head out of your bottom and actually look things up before hating.
You said Android can't deal with +44 numbers. This is clearly wrong.0 -

FaceTime's an open format - so if you can't use it, you've only Google to blame (although I think android has "Fring" or something as an alternative?)
Also use the front facing camera to take pictures of me and my mates in pubs etc. Easier than relying on the (admittedly clever) face recognition bit on the Desire HD.
But all Android phones with front cameras can do proper video calls and aren't crippled by a stupid wifi requirement.0 -
