iPhone lasts a day and a half out of the box, with everything enabled. Simples.
Two days of battery life from my HTC HD with everything you quoted ON (except Bluetooth because I don't use it). Brightness is also one notch up for it's default. I'm pleased with my fully functional phone with good battery life. You can have a 10 day battery life for all I care if it's use is limited I don't want it. All I need is a days charge, I'm not using it while I sleep.Idiophreak wrote: »The facebook integration pulls people's numbers from FB and *insists* that they're the default.
On a not-entirely-unrelated topic, you can't dial, or text, numbers with the +44 formatting.
I have been freely texting a friend in Poland with the international codes and have not had any problem replying to texts. No issues with facebook integration either. It doesn't force you to take those numbers in any event - you have to choose to link the contacts.Idiophreak wrote: »Around 6 months ago. If I scrolled too quickly through the images, they'd become blurry and you'd have to hesitate a moment for them to focus. If you scrolled too quickly through the thumbnails you'd have to wait for them to refresh/populate.
Err, the iPhone 4 *does* have point and click focusing - have *you* actually used one? I concede that the dual flash on the HTC was nice, but the sensor isn't actually as good as that on the iPhone. You're obviously one of these people who thinks more megapixels = better pictures. Sadly, this isn't the case. In all situations where the flash isn't in use, the iPhone, for me, takes sharper pictures with better colour balance.
The iPhone does NOT have autofocusing. It has point and click focusing... the HTC Desire HD does not require you to press anything to get it to focus - that is autofocusing. Anything above 6MP for a camera and a person won't see the difference. The iPhone is 5MP. And how often do you get perfect natural light for your pictures? Scrolling through pictures has never been an issue for me... although I can't imagine why you would need to scroll through over 100 pictures in a few seconds - why not pick from the thumbnails?Idiophreak wrote: »Oh, and of course the iPhone has a front-facing camera, too...which the HTC doesn't have at all. No FaceTime for you, then
You think Facetime is a plus? I had an old Sony phone that had a forward camera years ago and never once used it. Facetime can only be used to other iPhone users and in a wifi spot (which isn't even as good as video calling was years ago) - so what's the point? :rotfl:Idiophreak wrote: »As to the bigger screen, again, you seem to measure goodness in numbers, so have a look at the pixel counts instead of the size. Or actually just look at the two screens and ask yourself "which looks better. Really. "
The iPhone *is* my mobile device, so I've yet to fully get my head around why I'd want to be able to connect mobile devices to it via wifi, but "yay for you", anyway, I guess.
Having a slightly higher resolution on a smaller screen is always going to look nice... but when I'm on the web I want size - people claim the reason they need a tablet is to surf the web on a proper size screen. 4.3inches is big enough to use but small enough to carry in your pocket. That is why I didn't bother with the HTC Desire.
I meant to write "Wireless mobile hotspot" - up to 8 other devices can be tethered to it and can share it's internet connection.
And I have used an iPhone. I played about with the original iPhone to see what the fuss was about and was not impressed. It was garbage and couldn't do half the things any other phone could but people still bought it... why? I then got a 3GS from work (because some Exec thought iPhones would make good business phones) had it about 1 to 2 months before complaining and getting it switched for a Blackberry - unsurprisingly the iPhones were promptly ditched for BES a few months after I had ditched mine.
@Brock - that works if you like iTunes but if you don't fancy having everything in Apple's format (what's wrong with mp3s or any of the other open source formats?) you're stuck. iTunes is an annoying and invasive product which leaves you stuck with it because otherwise you have to convert everything to another format to play it on anything other than an Apple device. Apple don't want you to buy a product, they want you to buy into their social movement.
If you want a good critique of iPhones, just google "Maddox iPhone"Faith is believing what you know ain't so...0 -
Why on earth would someone install the crapware that is iTunes on their computer?0

Lies lies and damn lies. How did you make that one up?!
And the rest of your post reads not unlike an apologist's spiel...0 -
Wow, didn't realise it was so contentious and passionate!! thanks for all comments so far, some are really useful.
Think i will be going 3GS - main reasons are built in ipod, smoother screen functionality, and the fact Android keeps adding new OS too quickly, that you cannot add unless you root your phone.0 -

I'm aware that they changed the type of battery at some point after the Desire HD was launched - and I believe earlier models had better battery life. If you look at reviews, you'll see 50/50, some people going "this battery is a joke" and others saying "eh, it's fine"...I thought the people claiming it was poor were heavy users, were expecting it to last for days or something, but sadly that wasn't the case. If I played half hour of games and sent a few emails in the day, it wouldn't make 5PM before it needed recharging. I guess you are one of the lucky ones. At least with the iPhone it isn't a raffle - they've all got decent battery life.I have been freely texting a friend in Poland with the international codes and have not had any problem replying to texts. But if you *do* link the contacts, what then? Does it reply to the facebook number, or the number the text was sent from? It's possible this was a quirk of the ****y three firmwear that my handset came with - which also, by the way, added a 20 second flash screen into the "quickstart" boot sequence. :wall:The iPhone does NOT have autofocusing.
It *really* does. You just have no idea what you're talking about, do you?

Find it really handy, actually..to be able to chat to my sister face to face when it's her birthday, to be able to show her new things we've bought as we're chatting...Or just to watch my BIL's face grow redder as I'm whooping him at call of duty. FaceTime's an open format - so if you can't use it, you've only Google to blame (although I think android has "Fring" or something as an alternative?)
Also use the front facing camera to take pictures of me and my mates in pubs etc. Easier than relying on the (admittedly clever) face recognition bit on the Desire HD.0 -

*Sigh*, why would I make that up?
Pull your head out of your bottom and actually look things up before hating.
I (with great imagination!) just googled "desire HD +44" and this is the top link.

Oh dear, it would have been nice to see a balanced review both positive and negative of both phones but all im getting is a slagging match between Apple and Android and the Android fans saying how rubbish Apple is and the Apple fans saying how rubbish Andriod is.
I have no experience using Apple but I have used HTC and unfortunately have had a very bad experience with HTC which seems to me is the only way im forming my opinion at the moment (yes I know there is other hardware avaliable)0 -

!!!!!!?
All my music (all 25000+ tracks) are in MP3 format and work quite happily in iTunes, as they also do with windows media player or any other program I choose to use.
Apart from my contribution to getting RATM to Xmas number 1 in 2009 I haven't bought a single track from Apple.
I use iTunes because it works. Just like their phones.

Idiophreak wrote: »Try an objective test. Scroll through 100 images quickly (half a second each?) on your phone. At each image, just drag your finger from right to left once. Every time you have to go back and drag it again to actually get to the next image, count it up. I just tried it on my iphone, and counted to one. I did this same test with the Desire HD and found that 13 times out of a hundred I had to swipe twice to get it to do the right thing.
Just tried this on a desire hd (i'm really sad :rotfl:) and only had to do over on 2 out of a 100.
I suspect it's your technique
