Brought one but not to happy with it. response seems to be slow whenever i play or ffw etc (firware is not as good as the targa player i brought from aldi) and it doesnt seem to recognize my 250gb fat32 ext drive even though my 2gb was recogonized. will try my archos later on to see if that works if not its going back.0

So far I've tried out three. One has got to go back because the disc reader isn't working properly and I keep getting "bad disc" messages when the DVD will play on another machines.
The other two seem OK. Tried a USB memory stick and there was no response. (512K).
I think that the Targa machine I got from Lidl Last year for £19.99 is of much better quality overall. For example the Silvercrest one has a more limited number of letters usable in the title. Consequently I have got DVD downloads which are quite clearly labelled on my Targa DivX player, as they are on my computer. On the new one you can't see the episode number, so you don't know that you're watching the programmes in the correct order.
I shall have to rename some files so that I know what I shall be watching.
Even so, I shall be keeping mine. One for the caravan etc.....0 -
Bought one yesterday, will be taking it back and waiting for a model that works.
I tried playing a few things from my USB 2.0 2GB stick, some froze after 40 or so seconds, some didn't play at all - 'HD not supported' or something like that.
Disappointed considering I'd read various comments about this like 'plays everything I throw at it'. Oh well, was worth a punt for £30, and shouldn't have any probs with Lidl's return policy...0 -
This is the low down after my personal testing
DivX upto 6.0 and Xvid will play but at max resolution of those standards which is 720x576 as far as I can see. More than this and you will get the HD not supported.
For cards and pens, you should be able to get away with up to 4GB, but it will take about 2mins to load the file structure and probably as much time to start playing the movie.
I watched a 2hr file from my iPod last night. It was an Xvid file of 640x360. It formatted perfectly for 16:9. It did judder a few times at the start,it was noticeable but seemed to settle half way through.
Overall it's great. Component out on progressive scan is nearly as good as my upscaling Panasonic DVD recorder. Most people wouldn't know the difference. I paid £200 for that machine. No reliance should be placed on the above.0 -
These machines were on sale in NI last Monday. I bought one as I have an aging Cyberhome that was refusing to play lots of burnt DVDs and I needed a replacement anyway. So far, it has been excellent, playing any disc I throw at it, including raw data on CD/DVD-ROMs. The card reader is OK for pics from an SD card, but it doesn't seem to like vertical "portrait" style shots, sort of letterboxing them. I like the zoom feature that will bring up a 16:9 image to fill a 4:3 frame, the remote is a lot better than expected and the addition of a VGA port to allow the direct connection of a PC monitor is a bit of a bonus. All in all, a good buy for £35.0

I am not a proper MSE-er since I don't throw things at my DVD player I just put things in! The one I bought from Lidl yesterday said "bAd diSC" for everything I threw at it, er I mean everything I put in. Took it back today and did a swop (in and out the shop in just over 1 minute!!)
The new one appears fine, plays regular and Divx DVDs and just watched a Divx movie no problem from 1GB Kingston USB drive. Only problem so far the manual says you must be very careful removing USB drive to avoid damage but the removal instructions don't work. I powered off the player then removed it, seems OK.I ♥ MSE0 -
Is there anything cheap I can plug into the USB port that would let me watch files on a remote server? I mean I already have the wireless LAN it would be nice if I could watch stuff directly off one of the PCs instead of having to copy onto flash memory then unplug and walk it over to the player.I ♥ MSE0
