Good morning all. Well i have been going through the money today as OH is getting fed up with me taking the majority of his money each week. He has been giving me £50 extra a week for some time now and wondering where it is or has all gone. I had to tell him yet again that prices have gone up, tax credits have gone down as he is earning more. I really dont benefit from this extra money. We dont buy any luxuries and food and petrol is kept to a minimum each week. I save for the car tax, holiday (only small amount of spending money for holiday at sisters house), swimming lessons and xmas/birthdays each month but if i was not to do this we would come unstuck when these expenses came round. Because of these savings i should be able to use the car tax money or one of the other pots to temporarily pay for the car repairs it desperately needs. I have saved a good chunk of money for the holiday but as we are traveling quite a distance whilst visiting family quite a bit will be needed for petrol.

Sorry to rant but i really think he thinks i am just wasting his money on i dont know what. I did spend £2 on each child the other day for a few new toys for the garden but most of that type of spend comes from my birthday money. My dad treated us to a parasol for the garden (they are so expensive) as it has been so hot out there.

Anyone have any ideas where i can cut a few more £'s off or make a few extra pennies? I have already tried selling a few bits on ebay and fb but not much interest. Maybe a carboot over the holidays is called for?

I think he is just worrying as we will only get basic pay for the 2 weeks while he is off but his racing does not help with his money - although not an expensive hobby but more so that the no hobbies i have!

Right were off out for some fresh air and to have a think - hope everyone has a great day :)

  • oh dear I swear we both have the same husband! Either that or they've been talking lol. Same old moans here and i'm sick of it :( we've had some really broke months just recently and had no 'fun' money at all. If i buy the kids anything (say new shoes, clothes etc) then I have to expect the spanish inquisition every time from DH. it's really upsetting that he doesn't trust me at all to not have the best interest of the family in mind! Idiots. So anyway rant away, I will always be here no doubt to join in lol x

Thanks DFW I do understand your frustration too - we are very fortunate that nana likes buying shoes especially for eldest DD and the other two receive plenty of hand me downs from friends quite happy to get rid of their clutter so i do not normally have to pay out for those but yes i am not sure what he expects me to do as we are a single wage family and tax credits do not cover everything. He is lucky really with our debt that i allow him any spare treat money for himself.

the other annoying point i have to make is that he wants car to be repaired the day we go on holiday. We do not go until the 1st aug! i am more than capable of driving to the garage but no he wants to take it which means his only free day is the day we travel to my sisters. I think not. What if it needs more work or they dont have the right parts. I am not missing my holiday at this stage.

Well i am off to do meal plan and bake some cakes for snacks to keep kids away from food needed for meal times and then a spot of hoovering i think before i collect the kids from school - 1 more day and counting :)

Yay all my nagging must have worked. Hubby has booked car in although someone for garage is coming to collect it rather than me dropping it off and will bring it back to us tomorrow. Its one of his racing mates so no doubt this service will be free - at least it will be sorted before we need the car which i am very happy about :)

Not managed much since leaving computer but will use the excuse of needing energy to walk up steep hill to collect children from school in a little while :)

ok car is sorted but dont know how much it will cost as his friend bought it home with no bill. Have money ready for him though. Also not sure how i will cope with kids home and the food budget. DD is already doing the i'm hungry chant even though we had lunch not even an hour ago. All snacks are going fast - need to look for some cheap and filling snacks asap :)

Hope your all enjoying having kids home

Having the same problem here (constantly hungry kids and their friends). Either raiding the cuboards or wanting money for the shop. Or "my friend is hungry". Perhaps I should encourage them to go and play at other people's houses!!
    Crazy clothes challenge 140/180 :)
  • Have a look on approved foods?? We've got the same problem here too with gluttonous children

Good evening everyone. Have had quite a few spends this weekend and need to update my budget worksheet but will leave it until a little later as i think it will be quite scary.

We went to a local town on the train on friday which was great although quite scary for someone who had no clue which train we should be on and no idea if we had to change. Anyway i got me and the 3 kids and the buggy, picnic and kitchen sink to our destination! The tickets were free using my red spotty hanky points that tescos kindly gave out not long ago.

We looked around the free museums and went to the park attached to one of them which the kids loved. Had out picnic and a little wander (well we got a little lost) around the town :) It was at this point that i realized someone must have stood on the buggy whilst it was on the train in the luggage bit. It was all misshapen and one of the main bits had a huge crack on it. I didn't fiddle with it until i got home as i needed the buggy for DD as she had not yet had a nap and was needing one. Anyway at home the handle basically came off in my hand so i have had to pay for a new buggy this weekend. I found a decent one in argos for £39 so not terrible but i really could have done without that expense.

Anyway apart from the ice creams on the way home £4.50 it was a free day so cant really complain and for a few i hours i was the best mum in the world :)

Yesterday was swimming lessons and party for DS at sports centre plus they were having a free open day so lots of free activities to keep us ammused - again a NSD

Today i have been trying to get organised for our holiday to my sisters house. We go on thursday and i cant wait although knowing i still have lots to do is a little down heartening. I did however book tickets for all 5 of us to watch dispicable me 2 on sat - total cost including a £2 booking fee was £14.50. Bargain i thought. Wanted to book as only sat mornings at this price and i can imagine they sell out fast. Also found out there is a fun day happening whilst we are there (free yay). Also got round to ordering my great aunts pressie for her 90th (only a photo cube with pics of us all but what do you get someone her age?). Been meaning to do this for ages but never got round to it. We are off to her surprise party straight from holiday and staying in travelodge then we come home ready for OH to go back to work. Other than the cinema and fun day we dont have anything else planned as yet although my sisters friend normally leaves us a few ideas or free passes when we go there as she has young children unlike my sister.

We have £400 saved to pay for petrol and food and anything else that might be needed. I have my list of things to pack but cant really do that until wed as we need the bits until then. I guess its just work bits and cleaning the house and the fish tank (OH's job but guessing as he is working until we go i will have to do it)

Anyway better go look at bank and spreadsheet and update plus do meal plan. Have a good evening :)

Well car repairs are paid for - more than expected as they did the spark plugs when we only wanted them to fix the oil leak as we had already bought the spark plugs at big price which OH was going to fit - he did not so they then did - will let OH argue over that one with owner of garage as he knows him quite well.

Managed to get pain killers for holiday (for my teeth) and food til wed for £15. Got 3 pizzas for 25p each as i had some vouchers that ran out wed. Freezer is looking quite empty apart from ice lollies and 3 pizzas! Anyway not long to go til hols so will stock freezer after we get home.

Taken hol money out of the bank so i can see what goes where and how much we have left (pretty much nothing after bills on 1st of month). All set and no more buying other than a 90th birthday card which i forgot to get today. Will work on the photo cube later tonight when kids are in bed :)
