SAHM paying off debts slowly

Hi DFW i am sure tomorrow will fly by and hopefully less eventful than today. I am also hoping OH suddenly finds a decent car - one that will last more than a few months this time. My only problem is he will only consider cars that he can then race once i have finished with them. This narrows down the search to begin with. Fingers crossed.
Not sure if i mentioned it but my great aunt (the one whos 90th party we went to the other day) died last week. We all knew it was on the cards and her quality of life was not great so all ok with it. Her funeral is next thursday so i need to find a babysitter as we wont be home until very late that night and obviously have no idea if OH will be home that nightMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Hi everyone funeral went well even though it was an exhausting day. In the end OH had day off to care for kids (well youngest as others were at school) as he also had a funeral the same day. His aunt also died around the same time. Hoping that is it for a few months now. My uncle did ask me to pass message onto my mum saying for her to visit before xmas rather than in march as normal as her mum is not expected to last much longer. So it looks like mum will be coming over around half term and staying as long as necessary. Is it wrong i am quite excited to have her back even if it is waiting for my nan to die?
Anyway were back in the swing of school now and all are happy with their teachers and class mates. daytime groups are also back up and running and we did our first visit to playgroup today. DD even had a little nap - we seem to be coming out of this stage however hard i try to keep nap time in. She had a great time and found the dressing up box.
Money is a little tight as we have had a few bills go out that i wasnt expecting quite so soon. Was hoping to get a few more xmas pressies to get ahead of myself but money has gone towards other expenses......
.....OH has found a car. Friend of a friend who polishes his car weekly but has now ordered a new one. He was going to give it to OH for racing for free but OH said we would give him £200 for it. By the time i get it, it will need mot and tax plus last years mot said new breaks would be needed. I have £600 gathered from various pots which will hopefully cover most if not all of it. Apparently it should last longer than a year - i really do hope so as i am fed up of changing every few months and i have other things i need to spend the money on. We need a new fence and neighbours have offered to go halves even though it is our fence. They are trying to sell house in next six months and tidying everything up. At the moment we dont really have even half of the money but fence really is too far gone to repair.
Guess its back to scrimping and saving. We need:
Fence ???
Insurance Excess £150
xmas pressies £350
Car £600
More dissappointing news is that sister is going to be house swapping with people abroad next summer so we wont be able to use her house as our holiday home. If we are to have a holiday we will need to find something else and start saving asap. Realise we have been very lucky to have had the past few years for free though. Probably look at a sun holiday i reckonand hope we can get it in the summer hols as school it clamping down on holidays during term time.
Well time for bed - if you made it this far well done. Night night everyoneMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

ok is it cheaper to book a sun holiday or go straight to the caravann parks. I realise its a while til next holiday for us but as sister cant lend us her house i thought i should see how much i need to save. Guessing as need to go in school holidays i will need to pay more but perhaps booking direct would ensure i get the dates i need?Me, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

I've done the holiday parks full price and through the sun.. I think it is definitely cheaper to book the newspaper one! They do holidays in the actual holiday period too so you shouldn't have a problem getting one. We didn't have a holiday this year but might do next year it's so expensive though no matter how you book as you still have food and other things to pay for. Thanks for that DFW its something we will have to work on. really we may end up looking at it for the year after as so many things need paying for and doing around the house.
I am after more ideas and this time its for jobs / careers that i can do from home. I was an accountant but have been out of the business for so long now that i would be wary of doing clients accounts in case i have missed anything important. Although maybe i can look into getting a refresher course maybe. I like crafts and sewing but cant imagine it would pay that well for a job - maybe i am wrong though. I have been down the avon route and maybe i need to look into this more although i never saw it as more than pocket money. I cant do anything in the evenings as OH never guarented to be a home to look after LO's so parties of any variety are out as that is the normal times many people want them. House is in no state to childmind and as OH races there are car parts throughout i really dont think it would go down well. determind to come up with something as in jan youngest will go to nursery for 2 1/2 days a week but would rather have a job at home incase of sickness of any of the children. Anyway any ideas appreciated
Other news : money is as it should be at this time of the month - a few unplanned expenses but mainly on track. The new car has arrived and looks good from the outside although who knows whats going on under the bonnet. It will have its mot at some point this week and then if money left over it will be taxed for 1st oct. really hoping garage dont take all of the money.
DD turns 8 on thursday and i am sure the hormones are kicking in already. my sweet lovely girl has had a real attitude change. "i am 8 in 4 days so i no longer need to listen to you mummy" - my response was "oh yes you do". Wish i had thought quicker and replied with "thats ok then i dont have to do your washing or cook for you if your so mature now" but i was a little shocked. She will not so anything i ask. i have asked her teacher to have a quick word as she will not do her homework however hard i try. Hoping she might have a little more luck.
Right got to go as yougest has just emptied a bag of flour on the floor. guess the cake will have to wait until i have been to the shops tomorrowMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Well i havent come up with any fantastic ideas yet but i am constantly thinking.
Mum has announced she will be coming to stay for half term. She will be in the uk until feb time as she is kind of waiting on her mum to pass away - its expected -she will go and spend time with her mum for a while and prob end up back here on our sofa bed for a little longer. I am quite excited that she may be here for xmas. i cant wait but i now need to spring or autumn clean the house in preperation. Have made a list of the main areas and am making a start on that today. I also need the house in a decent state as i know everyone will turn up on thursday with daughters birthday pressies. I must look and see what i have for her too as i dont think its an awful lot. Might be shopping tomorrow for last bits. Got to make cake too tomorrow. ok dishwasher and washing machine need reloading so best get off my bum and do somethingMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Hi slm6002. I have an 8 yo DD too (say no more).
A friend of mine does Avon, she doesn't do parties either but she does ok dropping the books in houses locally and with friends at the school. I think she has a good group of regular clients (incld me).Crazy clothes challenge 140/1800 -
Hi scatty its reassuring to hear other have problems with their young ones too - its not me thats the bad mum its just life
Would consider doing avon again although my round that i had and worked hard at will now be with someone else. I built up a very good group of customers but still it only paid pocket money really unless i wanted to become a leader - which for me is not really that good as it meant that i would cover quite an area and would need to travel to meet new reps which i cant do with kids in tow. Will keep thinking about that and other jobs i can do though

Well i think i am now set for DD birthday. Cake sorted, pressies bought and will wrap in a min, balloons ready to blow up once she in bed.
I a feeling tired today and my legs just dont feel like walking anymore which is a shame as i have no choice other than to walk at the mo. OH friend still not collected car for its mot - he lives around the corner from us so will drive it to work and back and do its mot whilst its there. Would be a lovely treat for DD to have it for club tomorrow as its quite a trek from school to club. Oh well not looking likely so not getting hopes up.
Mum has almost booked flights and now considering going home jan rather than feb but still means we should see quite a bit of her. Wondering if i should set a bed up in DS room for her or youngest DD as if she is going to be her a while getting the sofa bed out each day night not be that practical. will have a think and maybe see if i can get a small toddler bed for youngest DD to fit in there?
Right am off to wrap pressies ready for tomorrow. Hope you all have a great dayMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

Good evening to you all. DD turned 8 today and has actually been a good mood all day. It might be because all the attention was on her today and she had lots of pressies. Hoping it may last a few more days before we head back into moody DD.
Anyway we all had cake and the whole family arrived after school and club. It was nearly 8 before they went to bed which is late for my lot but at least they settled well as they were tired.
Money seemed to fly out of my purse today but tomorrow should be better as the only thing i need to pay for is a parcel to be sent recorded delivery - can i pay with large letter stamps i wonder as i have a pile of these from my R.Mail surveys. We have playgroup and then i will attempt to put mess away before the weekend. It also looks like the man is coming to get my car tomorrow so i may have it for the weekend. My OH got so stroppy last night as i had already filled the car up with rubbish - i had put the 3 car seats and the cds in it! Not sure how car seats count as rubbish but there you go. He also told me to remove the car seats as it would not pass MOT with them in - surely this cant be true otherwise half the country would fail - maybe i am wrong?
OH has been very stroppy lately and i think its because his nan (who pretty much raised him as her own) has been in hospital for operation to remove a lump. He does't talk about things and just bottles them up until he gets home to me and then just picks on something really minute like the few plates in the sink or why his jeans are not washed even though he hadn't put them into the wash. I tend to just keep quite, feed him and send him to bed for a sleep. He is normally better in the morning.
Was hoping for an early night but as i am on here still that has gone out of the window. Mum has just booked flights and arrives in just under a month. Project clear up must beginMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19
