If you ring BPAS they will tell you if there is an NHS self referral contract in place for your area. if there is you can have the first consultation over the phone (they will arrange a time to call you) and a follow up appointment will be made. If you can't self refer ring you GP or local CASH/ Family PLanning Clinic and the will refer you. In both cases you should have you procedure within 2 weeks.

Another offer of a pm - been there bought the t shirt - plus I regularly make referrals as part of my work.

I replied to your pm. Hope you're ok.
  • Hi there.... just thought I'd let you know that I've been exactly where you are and wish you all the best. Your GP doesn't sound very understanding (not that I am at all surprised). Anyway lots of people have given you lots of advice. My only contribution is whatever you decide, stick to it and don't look back or regret. Stay strong.:A

I just want to say Best Wishes to the OP and express my admiration to all the posters who've given the OP the helpful info that she needs. MSE at its best.

Did anyone ever consider that females in exactly the situation that I have illustrated (childless with this past experience and over 40 and wanting one now) would find it too painful to read this thread? Sure they don't have to but it doesn't make their feelings/experiences any less relevant to the situation. I just would like the op to be 100% sure. As for all those pregnant females reading this thread that are going to have their babies - good luck. An abortion is not something anyone would go in to lightly,I really am sorry for them both.Really.

Oh !!!!!! off. People lives don't stop because others have problems.

Anyway OP, my GP refered me and it took 3 weeks for the appointemnt. That made me 9 weeks by their dates, 10 by mine. It would have been one tablet that day and return the next for a second and a stay of a few hours for obs.

You do what you feel is right at the time and so long as you do that, you will be fine.

OP just wanted to wish you all the best - you sound sensible, level headed and to have sound principles and I applaud you for considering carefully all aspects of your situation before taking a difficult decision.

I do hope you get the best support you can from your GP.

Just to add another point of view, adoption is always an option. There are lots of childless couples that would love a baby to love. I say this as a person who was adopted at birth and know if my biological mother had the view to just get rid I wouldn't be here today. I am grateful she gave me life even if she didn't keep me!!
