  • Hi Everyone.

I have to go to my initial consultation next friday morning. Annoyingly this is the busiest time in work and 2 other members of staff are already off. I have a horrible feeling work are not going to let me take any time off :(

Have you told them you have an appointment yet?

If you think they're going to be awkward I would not tell them in advance and phone them Friday morn telling them you have a medical emergency and will be in as soon as you can.

Good luck, hope it goes well.

  • I've not told them yet no. Wasn't sure if pulling a sicky was the way to go (lol).

I havent been able to be cmopletely honest with work (I know my boss is anti abortion and it's not a discussion I want to get into). But I have recently had another issue that has required doctor appointments so I've been using that as an excuse.

Sorry, didn't mean have you told them you're having an abortion, I mean have you told them you've got something on that day. That's none of their business.

Just pull a sicky. There's no need to tell them what for, especially as you've got a cover story already, and it is a medical emergency.

  • Just been thinking about something, and obviously this is going to be on my record. Would this ever get mentioned again in front of possible partners?

I mean I may tell them, but I also may chose not to! and I don't really want a doctor blurting it out in the middle of a consultation.

It does need to be on your handheld notes if you get pregnant in the future. There is a section about pregnancy history - including previous births, terminations and miscarriages.

If you are concerned when you do decide to settle down and have a baby, call the midwife and tell her that you don't want to mention it in front of your partner. All you will have to do is write "top" and the year.

Wishing you all the best x

OP Good luck with everything. 19 years ago I went through exactly the same, got pregnant, wasn't emotionally ready and had a termination.(I wasn't with DH then) It was the best option for me at the time, because of the situation I was in. I've gone on to have 2 lovely boys. The actual procedure was a D&C under light anaesthetic (the tablet wasn't available then) -bled a bit, had a few stomach cramps after and all was fine. Hope all goes smoothly and a big hug from cloudy Derbyshire for you.

eta Don't worry about the confidentiality thing, if you make it clear you don't want the termination mentioning, they can't mention it in front of anyone under Data Protection xx Good luck xxx

  • Hello all. Had my appointment this morning and it was ok J The staff we’re lovely. We had a chat about contraception and realised that it’s best I went onto a new type of pill. So Ill be making an appointment with my GP soon.

I had an internal scan and I’m 6 weeks. We had a chat about types of termination and decided on the surgical one due to the timings etc.
I’m now booked to go in next Saturday at 7.30am and had to have a friend come with me (they won’t let you leave without someone taking you). So Ive bitten the bullet and told one of my friends and he’s been great and agreed to come :)

They’ve explained what will happen next week and although im scared about going under I feel better about it now as the staff were lovely.

Glad you've got a friend on board, I'd hate to think of you going through it all by yourself.

    Good luck sweetie.
