Anyone else switching to EDF Fix Price 2014 ??
Hi
I am currently on EON Fix Online Version 8 which has been a fantastic cheap tariff. It will be ending soon and I am considering who to switch to. I use around 11,000 Kwh of Gas and 2,800 Kwh of Electric.
Having checked the price comparison sites, the cheapest non fixed tariff is Scottish Power Online Energy Save v14 which will cost around £723 per year.
However, the EDF Fix Price 2014 tariff is coming in at £836 and is fixed until March 2014. With the predictions of heavy price rises this seems like a decent deal.
The other alternative from a Fixed perspective is either npower go fix 6 which would cost £775 and is fixed till July 2012 or EDF Fixed Saver 6 which is fixed till Sept 2012 and will cost £776.
Any thoughts ??

Do you think energy prices will rise by more than 8%pa?
If you do, then the 2014 fixed tariff at £836pa is cheaper than the £723pa rising at 8%pa.
If prices rise by 10%pa, then you'd gain £125 with the fixed, at 15%, £380.
If however they rise by 0%, you'd lose £339, or 5%, £114 going with the fixed.
My view is electricity prices will rise by more than 15%pa over that period, but I have no idea what gas prices will do. All in all, i'd say it's hard to guess the financial outcome, an it's likely to be pretty neutral, but it's certainly a lot less hassle fixing for 3 years rather than potentially switching every year or so0 -
is eons fix 2013 no good for you?0

I too signed up for 2014 fixed rate and seeing the hike announced today I think I may have done the right thing:)0

I have just switched from E.On's FOL7 to EDF's Fixed S@ver v2, which is fixed until 30 Sep 2012. I did consider going for a longer fix, but have never used EDF before and didn't particularly want a long tie-in, with only a fairly expensive way out (£50). Judging by the latest news, I might take a bit of a hit when it does end, but at least I know what I'll be paying up until then.

Hi
I was in the process of deciding between EDFs Fixed Price 2014 or Online S@ver Version 12 to take over from my current fix with them.
But today signed up for M&S Energy as I will get £30 in vouchers as a welcome gift and £80 credit on my bill in Dec 2011. Also further incentives after 12 months.
Their kWh price seems cheap but it's not fixed but there is no tie in.
Now confused and a bit annoyed at myself for being talked into the M&S deal. Tempted to keep the M&S until I have the £80 discount and then fix but will the fix be higher?
Need a crystal ball or just the courage to make a decision and stick to it!

Well I was going to switch tonight, but also fancied a free case of wine by going through the uswitch site, but the link seems broken (or over used) tonight.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

As an existing EDF customer I've just taken the gamble and switched my economy seven tariff online to the 'Fixed Price 2014'. Fingers crossed it will prove to be the right decision. The last time I price fixed I came out quids in pocket.
I was surprised how easy it was to register the change via My Account. I'm sure I read on the website that one of the terms of switching to the fixed tariff was that you had to accept direct debit as a method of payment, but no such step was involved. It instantly showed my tariff as being the new fixed price one, but my payment details have remained unchanged as Quarterly payment by cash / cheque. In fact I pay by credit card when the quarterly bill comes in ... just can't bring myself to trust them with DD access to my bank... I'm amazed (and disappointed) EON aren't offering at least a little better deal to keep all us FOL8 customers.0
