I'm here, I'm here :hello:
It all went quite smoothly. I got a bunch of flowers and a bottle of wine, despite saying that I didn't want anything. Nice gesture, anyway. The last thing I wanted was chocolate, believe me. Back on the healthy diet now. I really am so pleased that I have left and can move on. Young male colleague can just shoulder the burden now, no more fence sitting or blaming me....
MrT's coat is awaiting collection in the Sorting Office. My normal postman would have left it in the shed if I wasn't in but he must have had a day off so now we have an errand to run. I think the zipped pocket is designed for him to carry his own poo bags.... however I shall be putting his pigs ears money in there and then he can pay for himself. He normally rootles around at the back of the counter in the pet shop so the girls can just help themselves to the cash. I expect he will insist on carrying his RSPCA card and phone number in there too, just in case anything else troubles him about my care - as if the coat isn't bad enough.....
Painterman is single but for very good reason. He smokes like a chimney, drinks like a fish, swears like a trooper and has been married a few times already..... we get on really well but not THAT well, thank you.... nevertheless he made a beautiful job of my flat when I first moved in and really knows his stuff.
I picked up my new glasses yesterday.... urghh.... first time with varifocals and am taking a while to acclimatise. I even googled it and apparently it is common to take some time. It all feels a bit "swimmy" but they feel better this morning than they did yesterday so I am heartened a little. I promised the optician that I would give them a 2 week trial. If they are still weird then I will have them changed to single lens. They are very smart though. Nice!
I paid for a film on Sky Box office last night and fell asleep after 10 minutes. it looked like it was going to be good, as wellWhat an eejit! I have got a months free subscription to LoveFilm so I think that I will use that and rent it again. Doh.... In fact it all kicked off last night - I made some toast and the setting was too high, burnt the toast and set the smoke alarm off. Cue hysterical terrier who cannot stand the sound of the alarm, me trying to climb on a stool to turn it off and toaster continuing to belch out smoke. Hells Bells.
All returned to normal eventually - it must have been that that wore me out causing me to miss my film. Who said life wasn't exciting?
Right, errands to run, MrT has still got to have yet another walk before he settles down and all before the rain kicks in again.
Speak soon
Hugs

Petal well done on escaping. Hooray. Have some cake if you are on a chocolate diet.
Sorry about the smoke alarm. Reminds me of my student days. Every sunday morning my fry ups woke up the entire house!!! Whoops.
With regard to the film, I dont know if it is the same as Virgin but with them you can watch the film over 24 hours so it is worth looking to see if you can? Does this make sense?
I still have problems when climbing stairs carrying a box but otherwise i am used to my glasses. Fingers crossed as they do make you dizzy at first.
I have a busy day food shopping. 3 bus trips. Yikes. But lots of lovely food. Yum.Aiming for a minimal spend 20220 -
At least you got something when you left, flowers and wine. I can remember one job gave me a gold locket which I never wore but it got taken to Rex Johnsons last year when I needed some spending money to go to Gran Canaria with.
You should never wear new glasses the same day you pick them up - always put them on first thing in the morning as it takes less time for your eyes to adjust. Must admit that with me sometimes flat walls look as though they bulge a bit until my eyes get used to lenses. Admittedly I have never worn varifocals or bifocals - the whole concept makes me feel queasy:(
Glad Mr Painter is doing a grand job of your flat sorry to hear about the smoke alarm though, poor MrT:(0 -
I couldn't sleep, tossing and turning, tired and yet unable to drop off... fancy being excited about a new job at my age.
When I think back at some of the jobs I have had in the past - high powered and high paid and there is me getting worked up over something that is about 1/3rd of the salary I was earning 20 years ago. How times change..... one thing that has struck me over the past couple of years is just how many people are in the same situation. For one reason or another they have "downsized" and are in jobs far less than their skills or experience enable them to actually do. The irony is that we are the lucky ones - we have managed to get the jobs and not have HR people that determine us as overqualified, and therefore not worth interviewing, let alone appointing.
So.... I am ready for the first day.... hair coloured, bathed, groomed, eyebrows plucked. New mug bought, tin of biscuits to bribe my popularity, new pen, new notebook, photo of MrT for my desk. I resisted a pencil case and sewing my name into my coatbut it certainly feels like the first day at Big School.
Painterman is going to come in the first week of October to redecorate my new bedroom. I must get around to buying the paint next weekend. I can't decide on a colour - I just know it is going to be one of those on the spot decisions... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - I just pays me money and takes me chance!
Wasn't Downton Abbey fantastic last night? And a full 90 minutes as well.... deep joy. It may have been that that stopped me from sleeping actually, I was so engrossed. They say you should be winding down before bed and not shedding a tear over Mary and Matthew....Roll on next Sunday.
Heating is on for the first time this year - it really is quite parky and it will warm the flat up for MrT through the day. Can't be having him getting chilly - he always has his RSPCA number close to paw.
I hope everyone had a decent weekend. Autumn is truly here now, wrap up and stay dry.....
Have a good one,
Hugs
