My tip would be to make/shape all the dumplings first and then lift the lid & drop them all in quickly so that the s/c doesn't lose too much heat. I usually drop them into the stew as I'm going along forming each one but doing it this way in the s/c doesn't work as it takes too long to get back up to temp.

also, if you've been cooking on low, whack it up to high while you're prepping the dumplings so they cook quicker when you drop them in.
  • My slow cooker book says 30 minutes because of the heat loss when you lift the lid.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

30 mins , they do seem to take longer in the slow cooker for some reason.

Just another question for slow cooker users, do you find that different potatoes cook at different rates.
I put them in for a couple of hours but some don't cook and some start to disintergrate in this time..
What potatoes do you use in stews in the slow cooker?

Thank you all! I was thinking they'd take ages because of SC :)

I don't have a particular variety of potatoes that i use, any that are on offer usually. But make sure they are roughly the same size.
