Has anyone done dumplings in the SC?

Ok, I want to fire up the slow cooker and have put in chopped celery, carrots, onion, potatoes, garlic, mixed herbs, beef and half a lonely bottle of red wine.

I want to make dumplings too - so firstly, does anyone have a tried and tested recipe please? And secondly, can they be cooked in the slow cooker too? If so, how long do they need to be in for?

Thanks in anticipation to all you knowledgeable people out there! :D

    Hi Noozan,

There's a good thread here with some recipes for dumplings: dumpling failure

Sorry, that's the name of the thread, not suggesting that yours will be. :o:) I usually pop dumplings into the slow cooker about 40-50 minutes before the meal is to be served.

I put them in about 20 minutes before the end but turn the slow cooker on to high.

I put my suet dumplings in for about the last 30 minutes on high. I just lay them on top of the casserole.

Yummy, wish I had that for dinner myself now you have made me drool.

I can't remember where I posted it but I usually do mine for the last hour when on LOW.

The size can make quite a difference, so I find that 50-75g (2-3oz) works well, and if they're not quite done when you're ready to eat just hook them out and nuke them for 1-2mins on high.

I always make my dumplings for my stews in the slow cooker, about an hour before eating, and i turn them after half an hour to make sure they are cooked.
