Has anyone done dumplings in the SC?

If you use tablespoons it should be 4tbsp SR flour to 1tbspn fat since fat is roughly twice as dense as flour. I use 1 cup plain flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 2 tbsp fat, pinch salt, tsp mixed herbs. Add a little cold water to mix to a soft dough. Quickly form into small balls (hey will double in size while cooking). It's pretty easy but there are two ways you can go wrong: If you overwork the mixture it will make your dumplings tough, If the stew or casserole is at a boil the dumplings will break up. I guess you don't have to worry about the second one with a slow cooker though.0

Hello everyone,
I have got a beef stew cooking as we speak in the slow cooker. I am going to be making some dumplings to go in it but how long do dumplings take to cook in the slow cooker ?
When I cook them in a stew in the oven I add them about 20 mins before serving, isit the same in the slow cooker. Confused !!!0 -
I put mine in for the last hour of cooking, once I get home from work, and turn the cooker up to High (I always use Low as I'm out all day). Saying that, though, they were still a bit undercooked inside last time - but perfectly edible. Maybe give them longer - I don't think they would get ruined or anything if you cook them for even a couple of hours. I'm sure there is a thread in the slow cooker recipe thread for dumplings - try searching for dumpling recipe.0

Hi Paige,
As morg_monster has said we have an older thread on cooking dumplings in the slow cooker that should help you so I'll merge your thread with it as it helps to keep all the replies together. Posts are listed in date order, so you'll need to read from the beginning to see all the replies.

I make mine with self rasing flour, marg, dash of pepper and water or milk (i rather use milk).
Plonk them in the slow cooker by spoon fulls for around 30 mins depending on what setting i have my s/c on, i normaly like to have it high for half the time then turn it down to low. for the rest.
Everyone eats them so they must be okGrocery Challenge. £400. - £35.22 + £19.80 + £109.01 = £164.03

I just use the recipe on the side of the suet packet to make the dumplings (from memory it's something like 2oz suet, 4oz flour & water to mix).
I turn the slow cooker up to full and plop smallish dumplings into the stew and put the lid back on. They're cooked after about 30 minutes, sometimes longer.
