Dumplings are so easy to make, probably even faster and cheaper that getting to the freezer, getting them out, baking them, throwing them in the steww.
4 oz flour
2 oz suet
salt
Water.
mix
roll into balls
chuck them in
you decide which is faster.
Aunt bessie, no wonder, utterly indigestiblemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
i have never had a problem with dumplings in the slow cooker, i follow the recipe on the side of the atora (green one).
i make them fairly wet (wetter than you could handle but not sloppy) then drop them in off the spoon rather than making balls, 20 mins on high and they are done, i turn them about halfway through...

I put mine in slow cooker but stew isn't visibly boiling but i suppose is very hot as would have been cooking for 6 or 7 hours and they are always fine. Do also turn them half way though.0

We had dumplings in 'scouse' on saturday and I do them for about 30-45 mins. Turned about half way through and they were as light as a feather.0

Thanks for all your replies, will try again soon, hopefully with better results!
I just wonder if I turned the cooker down to low by mistake or something, they sound so easy to do.0 -
I don't do mine in the SC, but would advise simmering liquid, SR flour, and get them in as soon as they're made
I'll add this to the existing thread to keep ideas together

I managed to snaffle myself a right bargain today at MrT:j Packets of fresh chicken breast (3 in each pack) for 98p each pack :money: So i bought 6 packs.. Wish i had got more but no space in freezer.
So, I have slung 6 breasts in the SC (got friend coming tonight for dinner then will freeze the rest for easy dinners) and I want to make some dumplings...
Question is, how big should I make them and how long will they take in the SC and should it be on low (its on low now) or on high?
Many thanks :beer:0 -
Hi frugal,
I just make them the normal size and pop them into the slow cooker about 45 minutes before I plan to serve the meal.
