pretty hard decision.... not sure what i would do in that situation, if the Director is recommending you then that's good and i know it's not more money but if the travelling's less then that's a better quality of life in my opinion. Assuming it's not a pay cut then less travel will mean less money spent in travelling so that would be a pay rise by the back door. Realistically in your current team do you think you can rescue the situation and build up a new team or do you think it needs completely new blood?
Only you will really know what is the best for you, make sure you talk it through with your OH and anyone else you trust. Lucille is right though what would you advise a friend to do in this situation?
well done on the lottery win, i've got a ticket for tonight, keeping my fingers crossed as i'd love to hand my notice in, actually i'd love to buy a lovely house more than hand my notice in.0 -
Hi, just popped over from Pippi's, hope you don't mind!
It *is* hard but I think you have to consider the long term. In the long term will you be happier in the new role? It sounds to me as if you are tending towards this but I do understand your reluctance to leave your current team in the lurch. I think, though, that they will cope somehow, and in a way it is an opportune time to leave. It'd be even harder if everything was perfect wouldn't it? (maybe!). When all's said and done (cliche alert) the company is out for itself and so should you be (to a fair extent obviously).Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
Lurker alert, I've subscribed to your diary and occasionally post on Stripes'. My thoughts for what they're worth, if this was a friend asking your advice on this situation, what would you advise? If it was one of you team who'd got the chance would they think twice about leaving? Hope this helps, not sure if it does, but I'll go back to lurking.

Hi Lucielle. Sorry been so quiet, I have had a busy weekend. I've asked my friends for their advice they suggested make a pro's and cons list. I recently transferred 2 people from my current team to another (not my choice but restructure), and they are desperate to come back! So much so that one is wanting to apply for the new positions I'm creating in my present team. But that said they've gone to a different team to where I've been offered to go.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. LT, fingers crossed your numbers came up.
vl2588, I don't mind at all the more the merrier!
I spoke to OH about the job, he's at a loss as to what I should do. I'm off on holiday tomorrow so have a week to decide. Going to talk to my Mum about it see what she says.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Popped over from Pippi's thread and have read back. I know you have a lot going on but could *some* of the down feelings you are having be due to work as well as OH's kids?
Do you think it is possible to rebuild your team, get the morale back and salvage the project yourself or would it work better if there was a change in team leader? Sometimes it does need new blood to get things back on track.
There is a lot to be said for less travel time, especially if you are busy outside of work. What could you do with that extra time and money. Would it make a difference to your quality of life or have a significant impact on your debt free date?
I know I am just throwing more questions at you when you probably just need someone to say do this, but it is your life and only you can make that decision:j Proud Member of Mike's Mob :j0 -
Hi Maty, unfortunately I've been told if I go to the new team then what's left of my current team would get absorbed into an existing team (there's also a row going on as the new team need me asap and my current manager wants me to tidy things up for 3 months before moving if thats what i decide to do), the team members I have already lost are pretty upset as it is. Not sure what they would say if I do take the new job (well I know what one would say, she'd ask for a transfer to my new team as after a row when I first started as she wanted my job and didn't get it, she said I was actually a nice boss and she didn't want to work for anyone else again as she's close to retirement). As for my debt free date it would bring it in by 3 months, which would make a difference. Quality of life? Not sure on that score as the new office I don't know anyone there and there's no windows.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Hi Unix, sorry I lost my subscription for a while, just found you again.
Now the job offer. I know this is more questions but these are things that you should think about.
[*]is the project salvagable or is it possible that in a few months they will wind the team up anywa
y
[*]if the staff that want to come back work on the team that you are being headhunted for - will they stay and will that make a difference to your decision
[*]can you ask to take some of the staff to your new team? Remember they want you and you may have some bargaining power here
[*]ultimately the staff will move on at some point in the future if not now.Would you be happy in that role if all the staff changed?
I used to work in an office with no windows - horrible. But I took myself out for a long walk at lunch time which helped and I had a photo of lovely scenery on my desk that I used to perk me up.
Good luck with the decision. Hope you have a good holidaySome days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
