Its £130 I think for under 1549CC, and about £190 for over that I think.

Yeah the prices I said were six months - shed motoring, living your life six months at a time is how I roll :rotfl:

Sorry to go off topic but where can I get £400 for my broken Hyundai? :p Starts and drives and has 3 months ticket, just dies after about an hour's driving.

    Send it to auction ?

(TBH, you could probably sell it privately.....)

Sell it to someone who lives 45 minutes away.

It took me nearly a year to find the last two cars we bought, a 106 for £475, and a classic mini for a £1000.
Most of them I didn't even look at, just dismissed from the advert.

It would be nice to need to put another 6 months on it and be able to quote the line from Top Gear "I've taxed worse!" :rotfl:

When I got my current car, I figured £50 per months MOT, only looking at anything with over 6 months.
You look for ages and see nothing, as soon as you buy there will be loads.

Anyway, scrap cars are worth a minimum of £150 - so I don't know in what world you're buying MOTed cars including auction fees for £150, but it ain't this one.

SMA charge £25 to send off the V5!

I have seen a half decent leathered up Rover 825i go for £100 at Chelmsford when the scrap value for the same car was nearer £250 last year.

I have been buying at Auction for more than 15 years, have offered your advice and you now reckon you know better, how many auctions have you been to?

How many cars have you bought at auction?

My mate that used to travel down from Sunderland to London every week always bought his cars at the Auctions near Newcastle, when his Subaru burnt a valve he went down and picked up an S reg bubbe shaped Rover 220D, cost £300, now this is a usable economical diesel car not a petrol shed. Old petrol cars are worthless at auction, there are plenty of cars such as old shape Avensis or old shape Primera going for next to nothing as they are petrol so have no redeaming qualities hence the low value.

So, buying from a trader that bought it from an auction is not going to be as cheap as the cra could be.

For example the Mazda Demio for £695, now if he drops to say £650 to make a sale do you seriously think he paid a penny more than £300 for it at the block?

Exactly, he didn't he isn't selling to make a loss he is selling to put food in his kids mouths.

Sometimes the innocent attitude of forum members take me by surprise.

You want a trader to be honest with you about things in the trade.

I have been a trader on and off for years, in the last 10 yrs as a home trader, Hammyman is a full time trader I think.

I KNOW there is a markup at a dealer - I just don't believe you can, RIGHT NOW, TODAY buy cars at auction for £100 when you can scrap them for £150-£300.

What's the typical indemnity fee at auction for a < £500 car? £25 for the V5 is a fixed cost.

bigjl, as i'd posted, the indemnity on anything under 1k local to me is around £100 plus VAT. So the £100 rover is £220.
What would it be at Chelmsford?
The last time I bought at auction I'm sure the indemnity was around £35-£40, thinking back, it's a while now.

    Found this for Shotts. 1 - 250 £84.00
    251 - 500 £96.00
    501 - 1000 £120.00

So I may be a bit out.
