No-one ever puts down the true cost, all the little extras somehow get glossed over.
I was looking at coparts for a salvage car. Few hundred pounds sounds good.
But then there's the £50 members fee, the £30 purchase fee, and the £10 loading fee. Then the VAT on the fees.
So my salvage car is another £100 on top, and no longer worth it. Ebay looks better again.0 -
Don't even mention Shotts - I know for a fact they've been used by a major leasing company to dispose of 2+ dangerously faulty 59 plate Astra estates that Vauxhall couldn't/wouldn't fix.0

I'm after a damaged mini, 80's or 90's, for breaking for parts apart from the shell.
So any accident damaged would be fine, or MOT fail, sub £500, seems to be nothing anywhere.
I've been looking for about 3 months now.0 -

What would it be at Chelmsford?
The last time I bought at auction I'm sure the indemnity was around £35-£40, thinking back, it's a while now.
Found this for Shotts. 1 - 250 £84.00
251 - 500 £96.00
501 - 1000 £120.00
So I may be a bit out.
No the indemnity isn't as high as that, I think it starts at under £50 for a cheapy, I have only paid more than £100 when the car was over £2000.
I have noticed BCA are getting a bit expensive, as are Manhiem, but last time i bought there I had a trade buyers card, so paid reduced fees.
It is well over a year since I bought at auction as I didn't have time to go, plus I have other stuff to take care of at work.
I have seen a mk2 Golf with one week MOT go for £25 before though, I think the fees on that where about the same.
However I haven't bought at Chelmsford since they were bought by Aston Barclay, I am going up there tomorrow for a scout, will report back with accurate fee structure.0 -

Don't forget, the furthest north bigjl has been is Luton, isn't Scotland just a bit North of there?0

Sell it to someone who lives 45 minutes away.
You're not the first person I've heard of owning two minis - one to cannibalise for parts for the other!0 -
Gonna check out those 2 cars tomorrow, think it'll probably be the 405 if either though0

Not really true, i am from Scotland.
Auction prices and therefore the price of cheap runners varies all over the UK, cars are definately a bit more expensive in Scotland and also the South East, but the area around Newcastle is good for cheapies at auction, my mate that used to drive down from Sunderland also brought a couple of cars down south to sell on, again prices vary all the time, but I know more than one person that has found cars cheaper up by Newcastle.0 -

No, my recommendation for somebody living in Scotland is the auctions near Newcastle, Scottis Motor Auctions or somethig like that, i will try an email my mate in underland to find out the name of the auctions that he buys his cheapies from.0
