There were 5 available at the offer price, designed to encourage people to come and see the new store. This is fair enough.

But what if it had been the other way round? If you had queued up properly and were, say, third in line, and the person sixth in the queue said to the manager that you'd pushed in, would you be happy to have your ticket taken away and handed to someone else? The manager had no way of knowing whether they'd pushed in or not
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
    Now 20% cooler

Argos are, generally, managed by muppets.

I'm not in the least surprised that the manager you encountered was a complete waste of space.

The problem is they seem to have cornered a certain market and they can be the most convenient way to buy some things.

If they trained their managers a little better they could be pretty good but whilst they have effectively no competition in the area in which they operate they probably won't.

    What a load of crap!!!

I'm sure the manager had better things to do like preparing the store to be opened, not standing outside supervising adults acting like children.

Ever heard of a concept called 'delegation'?

The point is that if you are going to make people queue up for a limited resource even a spotty youth on day release who had a little commons sense would realise that you would need to monitor the queue.

The fact that an Argos manager didn't even have the sense to delegate that task to someone tells us something about the management ability of said manager.
    What a load of crap!!!

    Sadly, they are. :(

I would of done the same thing as the manager to be honest. I'd have better things to do with my work time, if people outside want to push into the queue and squabble like children over a pathetic excuse for a television, then that's up to them. It's not my responsibility to Supervise adults who should know better.

The manager has to put up with pathetic stuff like that all day every day. Try working a day in his shoes before you criticise him.
I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.

Smoke free since Jan 2014 :D If you want any advice on quitting please send me a PM. :)

    Sadly, they are. :(

....nobody made anyone queue up though. Argos have (quite rightly) no control over what happens outside their shops. When do you think said spotty youth should report for queue duty?...an hour before opening 2,3 perhaps?

TBH, all this tells us is that you would make a truly useless excuse of a manager. :D

In the first place, you might like to try reading the OP properly. There wasn't any squabbling. When challenged the guy who pushed in handed over the ticket. In the second place, why should the people who didn't push in suffer?

Your attitude is a perfect example of what is going wrong with the world. You expect people who suffer at the hands of those who break the rules to just lie down and take it. Pathetic, really.

If the manager is not up to the job of organising something like this properly - and than means ensuring that the queue is properly supervised - he shouldn't be in the job.

I can only hope that you never get a job with which requires any degree of management ability because, by your own admission, you would be totally unsuitable for it.

Good lord, can no one bother to read the OP?

If Argos hadn't designated a queue, there wouldn't have been a queue. They would all have been in the shop.

I wouldn't expect Argos staff to physically manage the queue. All they needed to do was have someone keep an eye on it and note anyone who had pushed in. I have often seen shop staff tell people that there is a queue and they should join it at the back.

Had all this happened before the the shop opened, I agree, it would not have been their problem.

The problem arose because they allowed some people into the shop and the dozy manager then handed a ticket to someone who joined the queue at the front.

Couldn't really care less. Being a retail manager is the last thing I want to do with all the stick you have to put up with.

Fine, there wasn't any squabbling, but you also can't expect a manager to take something off someone over something he didn't see. And expect someone to stand outside to moniter a queue. People wait outside a shop pretty much everyday for it to open, you want someone to watch the queue everyday just incase someone pushes in and takes something someone else was going for?

No, it's Adults who push in queues who are causing the problems, if it's so bad that a member of staff has to supervise a queue at argos over a cheap TV like children then it's them who have the problem.
If the manager is not up to the job of organising something like this properly - and than means ensuring that the queue is properly supervised - he shouldn't be in the job.

I doubt any argos store would supervise the queue outside. Never happened at the store I was in.
I can only hope that you never get a job with which requires any degree of management ability because, by your own admission, you would be totally unsuitable for it.

Your opinion. I'm doing quite well with what I'm doing right now. ;)

Where does the OP say Argos designated a queue?
