Yes and what a silly post it was too. I'm over it now anyway, so let's let this thread sink to the depths eh.

It does sound like a pretty poorly run event. I'd have set up some Tensa Barriers separating the queue from the normal footfall, and had one or two members of staff there to hand out vouchers as they allowed the queue into the store.

I can understand why the manager didn't want to revoke the person's ticket, because he couldn't have forced it out of their hands without facing a laundry list of accusations, ranging from assault to who knows what else.

However, as a manager, even if he couldn't order an item of stock from another branch and reduce it, he would surely have the authority to offer a £50 gift card and use that against purchase of a full priced tv from another branch. There would have been many ways around it. If he couldn't do that, then he has less authority in his store than I do in mine, and I'm a rank and file, shoe gazing grunt.

I will 100% admit that my first post on this thread may come off high and mighty and argumentative - however this is a vents forum, and from time to time people will vent. I have no issue with people who disagree with me, just let's not make it too personal. Admittedly the first post is where I cast the first stone, but that's over now - heat of the moment.

The thing is events like this need to be planned slightly better, this was a minor example of what can go wrong with even small errors in an operation. Last thing, I'm not after compensation, just was venting. Thanks to all who have replied, positively and negatively.

    Hi

I'm not going to comment on the vouchers with people walking in ahead of the queue because that is unique to that particular store and any issues it had.

The offer that is being described is part of a store re-launch offer. Stores are undergoing a major re-development as part of implementing the new look, brand and logo. When a store is relaunched special offers are made available but only available to that particular store or group of stores if they are in the same area and have been rebranded at the same time.

For these special offers, such as the TV the OP mentioned, stores receive a quantity of stock that can be used for the special offer, which is why leaflets in the store and local press say "Limited Availability" or "Cannot be reserved", it is on a first come first serve basis, so where in normal circumstances stock can be reserved to come into the store (if available) or reserved at another store, the store can only sell stock allocated to the offer and once that stock has run out the promotion ends - if a customer still wanted the TV but it was not in stock we could reserve it for them at another store but they would have to pay full price as the stock being reserved would be from normal stock, not promotional stock.

This offer is limited to stores that are re-opening as part of a rebrand so managers have no authority to offer alternative offers or offer reduced prices on other items at other stores etc, once it's gone, it's gone!

Queue barriers can't be set up outside of the store because for the majority of stores they do not own the property outside the store so they can't place barriers outside or leave company property unattended.

Hope this clarifies a few queries, I'm off to work now!

I'm sure the manager had better things to do like preparing the store to be opened, not standing outside supervising adults acting like children.
I try to help as much as I can. But I'm also honest and speak my mind.
