Yeh I agree with many of the other posts on here, be open with the lad about it if it bothers you. I dont think putting some technology in place will work because he's clearly an IT wizard.
What's the best way to be open with him though? show him a list of everything you know he's looked at? you can obtain that from your history files, unless he deletes though. why not install X3 Watch from https://www.XXXchurch.com. It's a christian website that provides X3 watch as free accountability software. The software emails weekly, or fortnightly, or monthly, a list of any questionable websites visited to a specific email address, and it runs silently on your PC so he may never know you've installed it. I know some people on this board believe it's only natural, and there's nothing wrong with a 14 yr old looking at !!!!!!, but i see it a little differently. !!!!!! is so fake, and the danger with it is that your son may begin to believe that all women are these objects to view when he wants, and that all women behave in bed like the women in these photos/films.
I dont have sons of my own, but if i did i hope i would have the balls to confront them about this, and just be real without judging them
and yeh, move your PC to somewhere a little more public where he isnt going to be whacking off...0 -

Having said all that, if the teenagers want to see !!!!!! then all they have to do is pop in to the local newsagent and look at the top shelf.
I wasn't questioning the techie information in his first paragraph (hence why I did not include it in the quote of my reply.)0 -

Rather embarassing topic! DS14 has been downlaoding !!!!!!, horrible hard core stuff. We have customised the parental controls on the security and blocked other websites buy putting the web address in manually. However some sites we just can,t seem to block including images and videos. They are mostly foreign that he seems to be able to access through a general video link, then access the nasty stuff. Its completely baffled me and DH how we can't seem to stop it. DS has no idea we are checking what he is up to, but gets the off limits screen for the majority of the stuff he is trying to access.
Is it possible to ask our ISP (virgin) to block it at source? We are running windows 7 and trend security which we had set up by a computer guy back in January when the probllem started. The trend is a should do its job for 2 yrs. Any advise welcome. Although not trying to reason with a 14yr DS!!!
This is entirely your call. But peronally I agree with a lot of the other posts
14 yr olds will watch !!!!!!. You trying to stop that will just split you up further
Anyways
My advice is DONT use K9 - its designed for young children. If you put that on you can probably wave goodby to your relationship together
If you feel you must do something, use OPEN DNS
http://www.opendns.com/
You can set it to stop gambling sites (far worse in my opinion), pron etc
being a 14 year old it will probably be only a matter of time before they find sites to circumvent open dns, but the majority will be blocked. If they suss out the DNS has been changed, they can obviously chance it back.
Regardless, most teens use proxy sites to view whatever they like anyways (And I dont think any amount of protection/security will stop that)
Personally, id rather know what they were up to rather than force them to go around you:idea:0 -
Let me see if I've got this -
It's OK for me to regard NSFW as an acronym for Not Suitable For Work, but when Hammyman quotes it as Not Suitable For Women, that's stupidly offensive to you AND Freudian?
Best to stick with "Not Suitable For Work".0 -
Lots of good opinions here. I'm in the "talk to him" camp. I'd try to avoid embarrassing him but he needs to know that, although what's he's doing may seem to be in private, it's actually easily accessible to his parents. It's the same phenomena as finding a !!!!!! mag under your child's bed. Most male children will be interested, that's the way of the world, but he's got to respect the feelings of everyone at home. Remember, he's going to want a laptop at some point and that's when prevention and sensible discussion becomes impossible. You've got to teach him now how to respect you, as you do in all other things, but don't expect him to stop wanting to see what big girls look like with no clothes on.0
