Rather embarassing topic! DS14 has been downlaoding !!!!!!, horrible hard core stuff. We have customised the parental controls on the security and blocked other websites buy putting the web address in manually. However some sites we just can,t seem to block including images and videos. They are mostly foreign that he seems to be able to access through a general video link, then access the nasty stuff. Its completely baffled me and DH how we can't seem to stop it. DS has no idea we are checking what he is up to, but gets the off limits screen for the majority of the stuff he is trying to access.
Is it possible to ask our ISP (virgin) to block it at source? We are running windows 7 and trend security which we had set up by a computer guy back in January when the probllem started. The trend is a should do its job for 2 yrs. Any advise welcome. Although not trying to reason with a 14yr DS!!!
aside from the porno ...just do ensure that the anti-virus on all machines is fully-functioning / if u are on a {home } network and one gets through -- some of them spread like wildfire/ likewise, ensure the firewall is working / and ON/
unlikely that isp can block --- does depend on the isp/ u could ask i suppose.... i think bt do offer an option ...BLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

With the router if you can manage to get it emailing you the logs then you could likely also tell what sites he visits and put them all in the block list (depending on your router).
And certainly change the router password from the default.
I have my sons mac address making his PC stick to the same IP and I Can control what & when he does.
If the OP makes a long list of the really dirty !!!!!! site the son visits and sends it to me I'll personally vet them all0 -
Which is all very true, however, if the lad is even slightly IT clued up, which 99% of teenagers are, he will simply boot the PC using a Linux Boot CD and that will bypass everything you have setup, free to surf wherever he likes. Failing that, he'll use his smart phone!
Talk to the lad, education is best.
Not if you disable access to optical and removable media via Group Policy. To stop tethering via a smartphone, one can also change the NTFS permissions on the USBSTOR.INF and PNF files.
Personally if this was my kid (and I don't have any), I would whoop his f***ing a$$!!! Job done with no technical experience required.0 -

GPOs are far out the knowledgeof normal home users.
and still wont stop a live cd booting or usb key booting.
Not to mention you cant really enforce group policy properly without active directory.
Which means your stuck with the local policy version which is ok if he doesn't have admin acces. I mean its not like the admin passwords are easily hackable ... oh wait they are.0 -

How would a group policy stop them switching of the machine, and booting from a cd completely elimating the existing software on the machine?[greenhighlight]but it matters when the most senior politician in the land is happy to use language and examples that are simply not true.
[/greenhighlight][redtitle]
The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that[/redtitle](house of lords debate, talking about Cameron)0 -
I think K9 is the best solution..0

So disable the CD/USB boot up devices in the BIOS and password protect the BIOS.
Done.
Its a pain if you actually need to use those things.
Case off, hit reset bios button / pins / remove battery.
Done.
Really the only logical thing to do in this arms race is to just to cancel your internet subscription.0
