Some stuff I've found while working on something else

    Install DansGuardian
    firefox add on - procon-latte
    firefox addon - public-fox

The two addons for firefox are an easy install and setup,
DansGuardian not quite so easy you'll need to spend some time giving goggle a bashing.

But remember these are easy to foil for anyone who is good with computers.

The acronym NSFW is widely accepted to mean Not Suitable For Work. To substitute Work with Women is to suggest that women wouldn't want to see the content, or that they shouldn't see it - gender stereotyping, and offensive to some.

Yes, but your argument is predicated on the presumption that Hammyman deliberately amended the acronym from the generally accepted one, whereas it's perfectly possible that he, and others have merely adopted the alternative due to one or more individuals mis-hearing or mis-understanding it, in the same way that other elements of the English language are being modified in our time.

You're suggesting it's deliberate, it ain't necessarily so.

I believe you are looking to blockporn sites: What router you using if it is a netgear one you know you have all the devices to do so to block them hardcore sites. here is how

If your router is a netgear one, Log in at routerlogin.net
click in the menu block sites. see the picture in link on photobucket

    http://i463.photobucket.com/albums/qq356/L23b/pic7.jpg

save then job done as long as you keep the blocker updated with any other filthy sites you be good to go,

P.s also if you do not have a netgear router all other routers will have this option also.

    hope that helps

Let me see if I've got this -

It's OK for me to regard NSFW as an acronym for Not Suitable For Work, but when Hammyman quotes it as Not Suitable For Women, that's stupidly offensive to you AND Freudian?

Yes, it is offensive and Freudian.

Even if it was originally an honest idiocy the decision to subsequently adopt, absorb and repeat such an offensive interpretation is clearly vile. Any decent person would never lightly use such an idiom.

If I have this right, your saying use the router to block 'individual' sites??
If so, have you any idea of the sheer weight of pron sites out there? A 2Tb hardrive would probably struggle to hold all the sites, let alone a poxy router
    or perhaps ive missunderstood?
By the way, whats your definition of 'filthy'?

I can't believe you're spying on him and haven't let him know there's a problem,

    This is emotional nonsense.

What do you say to parents who say in court, "I didn't know he was taking drugs, and hanging around with lads who carried knives. There's no way he would have stabbed that man."

That's one of the biggest problems these days, kids whose parents let them get on with doing things and don't want to know.

As to the original post. You are not going to change human nature no matter what you do.
Buy him some magazines of a simliar theme, and tell him it's to save him spending all that time on the computer wasting electricity. There will be a sudden massive reduction in viewing I should think.

That's all we did when we caught our eldest (13 at the time) viewing the !!!!!!, now he doesn't even bother trying to find it on the net.
Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.

You seem to have misunderstood what I was saying. I said the OP should speak to their son about it rather than to continue spying on him (as they have been doing for several months) without mentioning the problem or dealing with it. I was not suggesting they turn the other cheek and ignore what was happening - quite the opposite, if you read my post I was quite clear that "Doing nothing is just as bad". I don't think your analogy applies to my advice.

No. I wasn't suggesting he modified it himself to deliberately be 'sexist'. I just don't think he was wise to repeat the 'sexist' term. If it was a misunderstanding, as you suggest, then what is the problem with some people here correcting his usage?

I wouldn't like to see the Not Suitable For Work acronym replaced by a slightly sexist one, would you?

It was just a tongue in cheek statement, I don't know why people are getting all up in arms about it. If anyone is going to object to !!!!!!, it's usually a woman IMO.
