Hi Cheery - am sure you will have a fab holibobs
I wanted to ask about the bike that you have are they good and do they last a long time? i'm saving towards a bike with a view to cycling to train station (and then to work at the other end) and back again and if i get a job closer to home i could just cycle there anyways - i also want a fold-up bike so it can come on holiday with us too. I know you may not get chance to reply until after your hols.
Hope work goes quickly for you and have a lovely time xCC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -
Always time to talk bikes DDFW! :T :T
Mine is one of these, in British Racing GreenI love it
Had it for, er, about 10 years now, I've only had to replace one tiny little bit on it (the 'nipple clip' :rotfl: :rotfl:) which cost a couple of quid. They're utterly brilliant, fold up really small (I can fold it in 11 seconds
), I don't tend to carry it far when folded - tend to unfold and wheel, but it's brill for carrying on and off trains (and you don't have to book either :T) I also take it on the bus when I'm being idle
(although my older male neighbour said he's been refused twice on the bus with his! But I never have
)
They're expensive, but if you can afford it a brilliant investment I reckon. The only slight problem I have is that it's a little tricky to get the back wheel on and off for changing tyres, but if you pay attention to which order you take things off in, you're laughing
There's plenty of cheaper folding bikes though, so it just depends what you're after! Mine only has 3 gears, but they're more widely spaced than a normal bike, so still fine for undulating roads (although I wouldn't get up a big hill on it). I've also cycled it along canal towpaths - a little jittery as it's got small wheels, but just a matter of getting used to it, not unstable at all.
Er, anything else you want to know?? If I bought one now I'd probably get one with lights already fitted - hard to know where to put them with the folding bits and I usually attach them to me rather than the bikeThey come in all kinds of pretty colours now too - I only had choice of red, green and black, and my boyfriend at the time had a red one (which Mr Daffs has now pinched
) so green it was!
Hooray to made beds pippi! :T :T :T :T No need for anything else!0 -
Just had call from Mr Daffs to say the festival we were going to (that he was playing at!) at the weekend has been cancelled due to flooding  It;s been raining a lot, but I didn't think it was that bad! Mind you, it's up in the dales, and the approach road is under 2 foot of water, and it's starting tonight, so I guess they had to cancel it even if it would have dried out tomorrow...
So.... back to the drawing board. Couple of different options - bit more sorting out at home time, whizz up to scottie land and spend an extra day or two with friend near inverness perhaps? Visit someone else on way up?? Not sure yet, Mr Daffs was too glum to chat about it properly, pah!0 -
Oh boo
That's a bit rubbish, had no idea the weather was that bad! I'm sure you can find something lovely to do.

What a shame, Cheery - but two feet of water is a bit urgent ... hope you can find a good substitute. And I'm *fascinated* by the whole folding bike thing. I have a non-foldy one in my horrible shed, its trapped in there by spiders, and a foldy one might be a *really* good idea.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

folding ones can get trapped by spiders too KC! :rotfl: :rotfl: Mind you, they also fit in the house a lot easier0

Hi Cheery et al
Thank you so much for your replyi've just looked through the brochure and am lusting after baggage to go with one as well! oh dear :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I probably would actually choose the racing green - not quite the same thing but i saw a mini the other day in racing green and thought 'yes, some day when i can go out and buy a lovely mini he will be in racing green' - i just love those classic colours
i very much don't have the money for such a hefty purchase right now (see my sig) - couldn't even see the price on the net thingy although i think i had to choose how i wanted my handles and all sorts
- might be a trip to a bike specialist before i order one
but its what i'm saving up for
Basically i have a tendency to fritter money  - i know what triggers this - bad day at work, the 'need' for a little treat, me and OH not getting along as well as we should, if somethings gone wrong - you know all those niggles that send you on the path to fritterdom. So i'll be in the supermarket and think oh yes i'll get that magazine - get something free with it too which is good and the read will be inspirational and its *only* £3 and there you go fritter. Fritters must always be on low cost things mustn't they? otherwise it'd be a splurge... anyways i have a lovely tin that houses my bits of savings so no i didn't but that magazine = £3 into the tin and no i didn't buy that gorgeous scarf with enough material to make a dress for just £1 instead of £15 in the sale - oops i did no £1 for the bike pot...
Any advice on how to stop frittering much appreciated
Cheery thank you so much for the reply though - some great advice as usual regarding lights etc. - which i would have never even thought of - gosh i might need a helmet too..
Sorry to hear the festival has been cancelled and can understand Mr Daffs disappointment. Looking forward to some photo's of your hols though (if you blog them)
oops - sorry for long rambly post, i'm very tired and wondering when my next blood test is to check thyroid again - really hope they can get the dosage right next time :cool:CC1:T £[STRIKE]2531[/STRIKE] £1460MORTGAGE OVERPAYMENTS: £10575.20 Target £12,100MF Date: [STRIKE]August 2042[/STRIKE] May 2035Declutter 1000 things by Xmas 2015! 53/10000 -
no idea how to stop frittering I'm afraid ddfw
Sounds ike you might have it sussed with the transferring money into pots if you don't - I think Hypno is doing something similar to stop her buying coffee on the way to work! Haven't mastered it myself
No idea how much Bromptons cost these days! I daren't look!
Home from work and don't have to go back for 19 days :j :j :j :j Left all in a rush and forgot to put my out of office on :rotfl: so got to do that in a minute, then I'm officially done
Still haven't figured out what to do for the weekend, but Mr Daffs has got a friend round now, so I'll be popping out to bung diesel in the car (eek) for the trip north, sneak in an extra brthday pressie for Mr Daffs for tomorrow, then I'll get upstairs and wrap them, and crack on with a few other things.
Little amble round the forum and a cuppa first though :T :T0
