Before you embark on going to a gym have you thought about joining a adult dance class? I have returned to ballet after a 10 year break and although it was slow to begin with i feel more toned and can move around easier. If thats not your cup of tea you can get work out video's from the bolshoi ballet.

I also do pole dancing which is a phenominal exercise.

Tap is also a good one for wobbly bums and thighs.

Oh and belly dancing, my local YMCA holds classes, might be worth seeing if your local one does too.

Weighted hula hoops and skipping are proven to give a good work out over a short period of time, a few 2-3min bursts throughout the day can do wonders too.

I'd advise caution here, you need to eat primarily to stabilise your blood sugar and secondarily to lose weight. You hopefully will find that the things you need to change to help you lose weight anyway. And exercise can be embarked on in the meantime. There is no reason you can't have a sensible treat now and then!
It can be once the diet only approach has been done for Drs to then put you on medication, so try not to be too dissapointed if that happens :)
Mum did the diet only approach very successfully but she was still put onto medication after a few months.

Hospital shops are usually hopeless for healthy eaters! If you're lucky, you'll get a couple of apples in ours, otherwise it's all chocolate bars, crisps, fizzy drinks, and so on.

That's shocking really. I was really surprised at what they had and this was Papworth Hospital a major heart specialist hospital. You would have thought at least they would know better!
The choices were crisps, sweets, fizzy pop type drinks and ones like ribena. I didn't look at the meals as wasn't stopping, I just wanted a quick snack. There may of been fruit but I couldn't see any so I opted for the muesli bar.

This is what I am hoping the dietician will help me with. Once I improve my eating habits can also look at other ways to help me lose the weight. My diet is my prority, the weight loss is my second although both are important to me.

It's quite amazing how making better choices soon becomes routine, and that makes treats even more enjoyable!
    Best of luck OP :)

Thank you for your concern but don't worry, I am on first name terms now with all the nurse's and Dr's at my local surgery, all their advise is being followed to the letter.

The reception staff joke I should be on the pay roll as I spend loads of time in there!! but don't have to go for a few weeks now!!!
