Have to say - when I got COD3 on the Wii I couldnt wait. Having played it..it kinda wasn't how I imagined...

The movement with the numchucks is OK - no problem really, but using the controller to shoot and move..like a mouse just doesnt seem to work very well. Also, to throw grenades for example, you actually need to move your hand to reach the buttons at the top of the controller, which means you lose aim - view goes everywhere, and your dead lol. It's maybe just me tbh, and takes a long time to get used to (which I've heard). Just thought I'd give you the down low.

Oh just one more thing. I'm defo no massive gamer, but I did find a few jerky/pausy moments when the game was in big battle scenes.. - not bad enough to put too much of a downer on things though.

That's a shame, I'd seen reviews saying it wasn't amazing but that of the two FPS' available at launch (this and Red Steel) it was the one to get. Perhaps I'll give it a go if I see it second hand in a few months either that or I'll just hang on for Metroid, I saw a vid of that which made me preorder a Wii in the first place, was a bit annoyed when I saw it wasn't a launch game. Fortunately I'm enjoying the system now anyway.

OMG, talking of wake, it's tomorrow again! Total thread views (this and the old) creeping up towards 9,000 now in 5 days.

    Over and Out!

So... not a million. Not even 9000 individual views. And not many people backing you. OMG indeed.

I thank Basil for an hour of quiet pleasure. The man is a genius.

I get quiet pleasure imagining being Basil's employer. Close your eyes, relax, and imagine all the conversations that s/he's had with Basil...that is, if Basil isn't totally unemployable. Basil appears to me to be the kind of person who gets glowing references such as 'Please take this person on'. Subtext being - cos then he'll leave us....

I get much pleasure from imagining dear Basil talking to Andrew at the Argos call centre.

Customer Relations Manager - Sheesh Andrew, your call time is through the roof! What on earth is going on?
Andrew - sorry boss, it's that bloke again
Customer Relations Manager - well just be firmer next time.
Andrew - but it's impossible to stop him talking unless you hang up on him.

I get pleasure imagining Basil's life. All the ordinary things that happen to him are, I suspect, a Message From the Universe. Everything that he happens to dislike is turned into a Grand Crusade. Basil's never been wrong in his life. All is grist to Basil's mill. Basil thinks he is clever, and is convinced that Nobody Else in the World is as Clever as he is. Basil doesn't realise that people notice quickly that Basil, like a cat, changes his footing as soon as he feels it's a bit insecure.

Basil lives in a fascinating world. It must be, cos a world where Basil is A Man Who Gets Things Done is certainly not this one....I do love hearing about alternate universes.

But I do so miss hearing about Phillip's life. Please tell us more. I want to hear about his innocent, shiny eyed expectations of life...I want to hear how he invites his chums round for tea and monopoly (presumably the drugs prevent him from wandering off or losing his attention during the game)... I want to hear more about this angel genius child from another era who can't concentrate and has limited social skills (proved by his inability to understand the world and also needing to be persuaded to listen) but whose indulgent parents are permitting to have a computer game...it's OK if the only entertainment is Basil's view of the world, but it's far more fun with Basil's take on Phillip!

On 20th November we were in Charlton Argos ...

While we were in there and I was browsing THEY excitedly came up to me

There is more than one Philip?? OMG!!
  • The sad thing is that pretty much everyone on the thread has been distracted into arguing with peterbaker rather than noticing that Argos:
    - messed up by accepting more preorders than they could fulfil
    - blamed Nintendo for not providing enough when it was their fault for taking too many orders
    - handled the situation appallingly after that, not taking the time to reassure customers

If Argos had half a clue what was going on, they'd have called everyone who wasn't getting one on launch day and said "I'm terribly sorry Mr Baker, due to an error on our part we've taken too many pre-orders and consequently we will have to delay the most recent orders by one week. As a courtesy to all customers who won't be getting their Wii on launch day, we can offer you a refund of the delivery charge."

If they had done that, I bet this thread wouldn't even be here.

The first bit is quite right Andrew, and if the reassurance was strong enough about the seven day delay then the majority of customers might have begrudgingly said ok.

In our case, a week would have completely messed up arrangements to get it to P on time. For Christmas present buyers, a week's delay might have been ok.

But none of it is really acceptable is it?

Stocking for Christmas and the logistics associated with it is hardly a new retail phenomenum - if you are making contracts based on the premise that you are a major player and can get things done on time, then failing to perform the contract simply means your business is a failure, not that your business is normal.

Well I'll let you into a secret...I have a £7/month mobile contract which gives me 200 anytime minutes which I rarely use unless I dial a few 0870 numbers! And after a complaint reaches a certain level of importance, the people you are complaining to have a tendency to pick up the tab by calling you back. As for making "people" angry, I am not sure again who you mean. Argos certainly made us angry by breaking the contract....

Finally, as for achieving anything, how many people on MSE have reported that they have been absolutely assured that they will definitely be receiving a Wii tomorrow linked full circle to a named instruction from the Escalations Department to the Dispatch Department? You might find one person other than me, with a few others who have "heard or been told" that they are expected to be in the country, on their way, or in their homes on that date.

Even you know when I am going to receive a Wii shopaholic! Argos would look excruciatingly dumb if they failed to deliver mine tomorrow, wouldn't they?

Edit: Total views this and the "lost" thread now over 9,000 in just 5 days! Does anyone know if Guest views are counted? Or is it just viewers who are logged-in?
  • peterbaker wrote:

Of course not. I expect companies I give money to "get it right", and if they can't get it right, I expect them to "put it right" (and apologise profusely).

The number of times companies can't "get it right" is ever increasing, and so is the number of times they're useless at "putting it right". As for the chances of getting an apology....

Not as dumb as you....imagine the loss of face! If they were serious, they'd have given you a package tracking number by now.
  • This thread's a farce.

By the example set we should boast about receiving any kind of service from any company because no-one here has got any kind of preferential treatment despite claims opposing this fact.
