Over taking on chevrons? You still haven't told us why it was necessary.

Because I wanted to, therefore it was necessary.
Mixing it with 44 tonnes trucks for not reason.
Because i'd overtaken (which last time I checked was still legal) and he decided to be an a55
Using the horn without good reason.

To warn other road users of my presence
Ffing and blinding at other drivers.

Because it's far healthier to let it out in the heat of the moment, than to grab a 9 iron at the next set of lights.
    Exceeding the speed limit.

I've been done for 33mph in a 30 zone and that was over 11 years ago.
    Need I say more?

You should probably go back to sleep.

Such markings are usually placed on roads with restricted visibility or other hazards that make overtaking more dangerous than usual

Not round my way they aren't. The placement seems to be more about allowing overtakes to happen than trying to restrict them.

I was going to post a google satellite view, but it shows the road still being built!

It is 3 lanes wide, flat apart from at one point, a 50 limit and the centre "lane" is a hatched area as wide as a normal lane with broken borders at both sides.

It's perfectly safe to overtake in it, and it's great system because if they just had two very wide lanes then the 40 ever crowd would all drive with two wheels touching the centre line.

Basically this design is a replacement for the old fashioned "suicide lane" where there is a centre lane with no specific direction indicated. It functions the same way only the hatchings prevent the lane from being used by the people who don't understand road markings and think it's illegal to enter.

Tell us what did the truck do wrong?

He remained in lane 1 throughout, what is wrong with accelorating up to the speed limit? You were going for a closing cap which ever way you look at it.

Being overtaken. If a driver is trying to overtake you, maintain a steady course and speed, slowing down if necessary to let the vehicle pass. Never obstruct drivers who wish to pass. Speeding up or driving unpredictably while someone is overtaking you is dangerous. Drop back to maintain a two-second gap if someone overtakes and pulls into the gap in front of you.

I remember reading somewhere that these are still widely used in Ireland, don't know if it's true or not though

Is that a valid reason? No!

Because i'd overtaken (which last time I checked was still legal) and he decided to be an a55

    You were an a55 too!

To warn other road users of my presence

I guess the other driver knew you were there as they would have looked in the mirror before braking so your use was unnecessary.

Because it's far healthier to let it out in the heat of the moment, than to grab a 9 iron at the next set of lights.

Shows you have the wrong mind set to be a good driver.

And still haven't learnt from it.

You should probably go back to sleep.

At least you haven't denied being a crap driver, just given more evidence that you are.;)

Oh hmmm..... I was overtaken on the inside by a truck, clearly he was exempt from the law, therefore making it my fault

How were you over taken by the lorry when the lorry was cleary infront of you at the start of the clip?

    http://www.youtube.com/user/Strider9655#p/u/10/E0xlNy80fhU

Then when you both exited the roundabout at 0:13 the lorry was still in front of you... Then at 0:17 you were (I assume) level with the lorry, possibly in his blind spot - as he could have assumed you took the next exit at the roundabout as you were in the right hand lane?

At 0:21 you can see the lorries headlights on the back on the white van, so one would assume you didn't see the lorry as you then made an attempt to get in behind the van...

Looks like he was maintaining a steady course out of the island.;)

It wouldn't surprise me. I've only driven in Ireland a few times (mostly from the ferry terminal at Wexford up to Belfast) but their roads seem to be stuck in the 70s.

As do their driving standards. Their main roads have one lane and one hard shoulder but slower traffic will pull into the hard shoulder to allow faster traffic past*, and tractors just stay in the hard shoulder.

As soon as you cross the border into the north it's like someone flicked a switch that massively improves the roads but turns all the drivers into complete nobheads.

    *Unless they have GB numberplates.

Correct but Strider won't have it.
