uch markings are usually placed on roads with restricted visibility or other hazards that make overtaking more dangerous than usual

On the contrary, a hatched [central] road marking is there to 'separate' flows of traffic..ie keep them further away from each other.

Care to post your definition of "necessary"

when the area of road needs to be occupied in order to provide the requisite clearance when overtaking....

or when the characteristics [limitations] of the vehicle require the driver to use or cross the hatched area.

Only to be done..'if safe to do so'

Also note, Highway Code, sect.130 refers to 'diagonal' lines enclosed by broken white line... and 'chevrons' enclosed by solid line.....

no longer any mention of 'diagonal' markings surrounded by solid white line .

[this I believe, because someone discovered there wasn't actually anything in TRSGD's about this marking..therefore not 'official' and enforceable]

Highway Code section 165 [overtaking] therefore seems to be ambiguous about this....or maybe simply 'tongue-in-cheek?'

The majority of incidents on the videos and possibly the unseen one which the topic is regarding, are avoidable. Strider, you do generally seem to be placing yourself in danger. Do you have family? Is it all worth the risk? If the answer is yes to those questions, then you need help.

No it's cool, nobody in their right mind is gonna come in here and get attacked by this mob..... So supporters? they're over here somewhere ====>

If I likened it to walking into a pub full of Celtic supporters during a Celtic V Rangers game, whilst wearing a Rangers shirt and shouting "Celtic suck".... Then perhaps you'd understand (it's really quite simple).

That's more like how your driving will end one day.

5 seconds of his time or several minutes of someone else's when I get stuck unable to move in the middle of a main road, because I don't have 1st gear?

Hardly something anyone else would know though is it?

You have a defective motor (which you should really have fixed before venturing out on the road) - that's no-one's problem but yours.

I bet his car pulls off better in second than that 44 tonner, all the more reason for him to filter in behind him and not cause him to brake.
  • My Vecs happily pull away in 2nd.... Hardly end of the world stuff if I had to stop with no 1st gear....

Anticipation and a flash of lights and the van man could of been on his way whilst still rolling....& Happy days all round.

Thinking your a Road Captain or Rocky behind the wheel will see you come unstuck one day... But there will be no thread or youtube video of that will there?...

So because nobody knows i've got a dodgy gear linkage I should come to a complete stop for all people exiting side roads? even when im traveling along at that roads speed limit? I can see that going down really well with anyone who happens to be behind me :rotfl:

    Here's a thought.
Should a professional driver (I use that term loosely) not have the ability and forethought to account for such eventualities instead of mouthing abuse and driving like an utter tw4t?

And seeing as how my car would easily have passed an MOT, it's safety is not in question. Im hardly going to plough into a bus stop because first gear doesn't work.

    Maybe that's why this happened?

You never mentioned you were a professional driver....
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
