I view it as overtaking tractors and steam engines and other slow vehicles, not merely that the tea might be ready at home.
What about the extreme form of that exact situation. Let me give you a real life example from my last job.
I wasn't doing so well financially and by the end of the month I could have literally zero money available, then I'd get called out at 4:55 PM by a customer with a critical fault and guaranteed next day response in their contract.
So I'd have to pack my bags and set out on an overnight stay. Fortunately I had a company provided Premier Inn card, however they usually stop serving food at 10PM.
So picture the situation, I'm on the single carriageways, about half an hour from the hotel, it's 9:30, if I don't get there for 10 I don't get to eat at all tonight.
Then I end up behind Gerald McCodger in his Rover 214Si doing 50 in a 60, and slowing to about 25 for every single corner.
There's some chevrons ahead, with broken right lines.
Is it necessary for me to overtake?0 -
Does your phone work, and can you order the food so they cook it before when you arrive?
I did that once on the way to a pub in Wales where my friends had arrived a couple of hours earlier, and the pub quite surprised them by bringing my food out 5 minutes early.0 -
Have you ever tried phoning an individual Premier Inn branch, even if you can find the number, after the phone goes unanswered for 3 rings it puts you through to the centralised booking line, which is closed at that time of night.
Doesn't matter now anyway because I left that job because of things like that, but it's an example situation where "necessary" is open to interpretation.0 -
I have, at a bit after midnight, for Ashford, just before boarding the train on Eurotunnel0

So I have an alternative choice of stopping and attempting to call them, as the company did not provide hands free kits, making me even less likely to get there on time should I be unable to get through. Not a great option really. Much lower risk to just over take Mr. McCodger.
Other hotels were much more accommodating on this one. A regular one I used to use was Oliver's Lodge in St. Ives and they'd always sort me out if I rang them and ordered in advance... I had to spend my own money and claim it back if I used that one though, so not much use in the situation I describe.0 -

If the other vehicles are at a reasonable proportion of the speed limit, there's no necessity to overtake at all.
It IS necessary if you need to take videos of other drivers reacting to your bad driving in order to put the videos on you tube and try and make every other driver look like a idiot.
The only common denominator in Strider's videos is Strider himself.
Pwned - as I believe the young uns would say. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

Well this one's well and trully backfired on you Strider, you've had the error of your ways pointed out by all and sundry and as someone else said "you still don't get it?"
If you are gong to post up videos showing everyone else is out of step with your driving then it should at least eventually get through to you that maybe the fault lies closer to home.:wall:
Let me know when they let you out again;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
^^ "all and sundry"? I just see people ganging together whether they agree or not, it's the pack mentality of the weak mind. It's interesting and quite indicative of our indoctrinated society driven by popular (but often incorrect) opinion and the media.
Anyway (added for the benefit of confused mikey) - Re: the overtaking comments above
Everything I have to say can be seen here“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Some of the stuff on that Vaux site I agree with such as mongs doing 40 in a 60 then 40 in a 30 but a lot of it is"I was driving along and this idiot did this dangerous thing to me, so I did something twice as dangerous back to teach him a lesson" mentality.0
