  • I bought a coin and they started sending more, eventually i recieved a soveriegn worth in excess of 600 pounds, I immediately posted it back in the freepost envelope without reading or examining the coin, i wanted nothing to do with it and assumed that was what the envelope was for, now they say they havent receieved it, No matter what i will never give them 680 pounds, what can they do?
    Can they send bailiffs?
    Can they register defaults?
    CCJ's?

I dont understand all this stuff but one thing i understand is that the coins are a front, There real business is Scamming, but cleverly covered up. I'm sure that they purposely include a freepost envelope to entrap you, Even if the coin gets returned they claim they haven't received it as they know you can't prove it and they just take advantage!
  • Are you saying you still have the coin? if you do you will have to send it back recorded post.

If you have sent it back in the post, then you need to show some proof, do you have any proof?

What was the original cost of the coin sent to you?

No I don't have the coin any longer - I sent it back to them using their prepaid returns label, and unfortunately I do not have proof of my posting of it. Cost of coin was around £32.

Wiggggy seems in a far worse situation with a £680 bill and the same old tale of "we haven't received the coin back". It's a dispicable activity that they're doing and we need a way to group together to fight this. It's a legalised con operation.

But can they prove that you received it in the first place? If they can't then play them at there own game

what you will have to do is tell the solicitor that you want to talk in writing, get the solicitor to give you a letter and as long as you never said you have received it, ask them to prove that you received it in the first place.

As the amount you owe is £680 it would make sence for them to accuse you and to try and take you to court.

It will be a tricky situation and I dont think personally that they will bother.

Do they have any proof that you received the coin?
have you replied back in writing to state that the item was recieved (not advised)?

I'm tempted to order a coin to make some money off them. I remember I saw a advert in a magazine when they were selling coins, the coins were new next year (this year) £2 coins for £5. Did I buy it, no because I can get £2 for £2 why do I have to pay £5.

Obviously doesn't help those who have already taken it "so far" but I'm quoting this having read this entire thread and only saw this vital point on the last page.

This is quite key in the grand scheme of things. Especially considering the amount of people referring on the whole to it as a scam. From what I've read, the coins aren't even sent to people registered. So for future reference...

actually, again, totally unhelpful but if it were me and I suddenly started getting charged extra or threatened over something I was 1) unaware of 2) believed to have been resolved, my immediate response would have been "I'm sorry, what coin?"
  • Hi everyone ive had a similar dealings with london mint and was wondering if someone could tell me where i stand, ill go into as much detail as can and ill try not to go on to much.

My first son was born in feb we bought some newspapers and the like to show him when he was older. Anyhow his Grandad has bought him a coin from london mint and after i saw it ill ordered some. I did it online and ordered the following

    1 x olympics coin £5.99
    1 x Wedding coin £5.99
    1 x Engagement coin £5.99
1 x British penny free but £2.50 postage

ok so first i got the olympic coin and wedding coin each posted seperatly and with further coins for "my approval". I rang the company and said i didnt want the coins and to cancel sending me anymore even the ones i ordered, he said send the unwanted coins back in a pre-paid post i said "i would post myself via a courier" which i did. Anyhow i paid for the coins i had kept and returned the others and even got conformation letters back from them.

A few weeks later i then got the british penny and some stamps for free and some more coins for my approval. I rang again and after nearly 35mins got through. I said "i have spoken to staff and sent a covering letter with the coins and i do not want anymore". He was very pushy to sell the free coin and stamps but i simply didnt want them anymore. I returned all free items by private carriage and coins and once again got a conformation. Good i though done and dusted, paid for what i had and all returned what i didnt.

A few weeks later i got another coin for my approval it was like £50, I rang again and the guy was actually helpful tbf. Basically even tho i ordered the 4 items on one order 4 accounts had been opened in my name 1 for each collection. All of them were cancelled and once again private carriage returns and conformation at their end.

A week after that i got a demand for 1 x engagement coin, so phoned again told them i never recieved it, they said "not a problem, fill in a sheet we send and state you have not had it". After this the phonecalls started from HL solics, they ring up and give you know clue as to why they are ring and ask for postcodes and stuff. i said "not untill you tell me what you do". I was getting 4-5 phonecalls a day and in the end i gave a false postcode just to find out what they wanted....

Yes they had been passed the "debt" by london mint and after a talk they have put my account on hold for 2 weeks and after that it must be paid. I have again rang london mint and 5 days ago the lady was sorry i never got my "item not recieved form" and would send one out straight away. Still not had the form :( dont think i ever will and im nearing the end of my two weeks, the london mint will not speak to the HL solics either.

Can anyone tell me where i stand i really am sick of it, thankfully i didnt trust the company so i used cheques for the first time ever lol. Ive paid for what i had, returned what i didnt now they want for an item i never had.

Please anyone ending up here on a google search before you order from them DONT.

    Thanks everyone
  • Try this for size.

Each coin has a value, add up all the value you owe them and write a check.
If they sent you a 1p then give them a 1p check.
if the olympics coin was 50p then give them 50p.
Tell them that you are paying "without prejudice" in a letter with all the checks, or 1 check with the total.
    and send it recorded delivery.

With all this bad publicity about the london mint is there anyone out there who is having problems getting their £100 for an undated 20p coin - they upped the price they were paying for the coin about a year ago and yet the coins themselves have drifted down in price on ebay to arround the £40 - £50 mark leaving a massive potential profit equivelent to 75 years interest in a building society from buying one on ebay and selling it to them.
not sure if this is sustainable

    Update

Hi everybody. Just to let you know I have heard nothing more from London Mint Office. This is not ideal, as the debt may still be outstanding against my name and affect my future credit rating.
