Help!!!LONDON MINT COMPANY SCAM
Comments
-
I apologise for getting the name of the company wrong. It is actually, The London Mint Office0
-
There are two issues here.I am surprised at your answer. The London Mint office obtained my card details under false pretenses. Their form clearly stated that my details would be used for ONE transaction only, that of the coin I originally purchased. I did not at any time agree to purchase another coin. It was their decision to send the coin
1) they send you a second coin without you requesting it.
2) you returned the second coin which apparently did not arrive back with the seller.
The second issue is the one addressed by George Michael...
Just what is surprising about this?George_Michael wrote:But if they didn't receive the coin back, (and you have no proof that they did), then you do owe them the money.
It's not your fault that it wasn't delivered, but neither is it the fault of the London Mint.
You paid Royal Mail to deliver the thing.
Royal Mail failed to do so.
You need to discuss your options with Royal Mail.
Clearly none of this is anything to do with The London Mint Office.0 -
Although usually proof of posting is enough for something valued at less than 100 times 1stclass stamp. I think I'd have sent this back Special Delivery as Royal Mail doesn't pay compensation for missing money unless sent by SD. I suppose it depends whether the coin is classed as "money" or not (e.g legal tender, etc). For the sake of around £5 (minimum used to be £4.XX but haven't used since prices went up), you've left yourself with no proof of delivery and likely no claim against Royal Mail to offset against what the London Mint are trying to get off you.
cash has to go SD.0 -

Are you 100% certain about this?
Normally, when you buy an item from companies who sell collections of coins (and many other items), there is often a clause in their "small print" stating that when you purchase the 1st coin, you agree that they will send you furtheritems on approval until you cancel.
There is another system that the London Mint have, and that is that if any coin purchased is marked in blue as collection, then further coins from the collection will automatically be sent and the money taken upon dispatch.
A example of their approval system is shown below.
If your application for the William and Catherine Wedding Crown is successful you will receive further coins in the Royal House of Windsor, a collection celebrating William and Catherine and the Royal Family, to view on approval. Each coin will be available to you at the privileged price of just £29.95 (plus £2.95 P&P) and despatched at approximately monthly intervals, always without obligation. You may cancel at any time0 -
Consuma, what coin did you buy?0
-
I bought the £29.00 gold coin on special offer. London Mint office have not said that that they did not receive the coin. They are trying to charge exhorbitant late administration charges and interest for late payment. It seems that London Mint office make their money on these payments rather than by actually selling the coins.0

And on their website they clearly state...They got my debit card details and it looks as if they have been using them to help themselves from my account, to pay off what they say I owe them
So they didn't get your card details without your knowledge.London Mint Office Collection
Purchasing this coin entitles you to the preferential purchase rights for other coins from the collection released by The London Mint Office approximately every four weeks although always sent on approval and without any obligation. Payment for each release will only be taken after you have been sent the product.
Applicants are free to vacate their position on the reservation list at any time, or to return any coin within 14 days of receipt and receive a full refund. For further information, please read the product specific guarantee & conditions
Future coins in your collection will be charged automatically to your credit or debit card only after dispatch. If you return any coin, credit balances will be automatically refunded to your card and you may cancel at any time.
Their website clearly says they will charge your card for all coins sent on approval.
Yes, they have been helping themselves to money from your account... with your agreement.
They also say...
Did you send it back by registered post? The London Mint Office 14 Day Buy Back Guarantee

You have happily let this thread assume for days that the thing did not arrive back at LMO.London Mint office have not said that that they did not receive the coin. They are trying to charge exhorbitant late administration charges and interest for late payment.
And there is nothing wrong with that.It seems that London Mint office make their money on these payments rather than by actually selling the coins.0 -
Are you employed by the London Mint Office? You seem to be doing a good job of arguing their case. I did not come to the forum to engage in verbal cleverness with an advocate for the company but to get help from someone who can suggest a way out of this problem. I have every reason to believe that London Mint office did receive the coin I returned and I am not prepared to involve myself in a fraud against the Post office when they put in a claim for a coin that they supposedly haven't received.0

saying someone works for a company because you dont like their answers is poor form0 -
Just for the record... no, I do not work for the London Mint Office. Are you employed by the London Mint Office? You seem to be doing a good job of arguing their case. I only asked one question, and you totally ignored it.
Did you return the coin by registered post?
because that is what their T&Cs say you should do.
You have told us that the fees LMO are charging are...
Your words.exhorbitant late administration charges and interest for late payment
So they appear to have received the thing back, but perhaps not in the timescale they specified.
Does you proof of posting show that you posted the thing back within 14 days of receiving it?
I think you need to press them to state either they have received the coin back or not.0
