It is one of the most important points about your complaint, so surely you are willing to post why you are convinced that the coin was delivered to the London mint.
Actually, I do not agree that it is one of the most important parts of my complaint. It is the point that YOU think is the most important, that's different.0 -
I too think that people with thousands of posts, along with 4 figures worth of "thanks" works for this company, it's obvious! :rotfl:"We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0

their tv adverts do also make it clear that you'll get sent lots more expensive coins after the first special deal.... tough to argue you didn't know if it's there in the T&Cs. make sure you cancel from this point on though (assuming that's not already been done?):happyhear0

I did not return the coin by registered post because I did not refer to their website when I received it. The coin was not sent to me by registered post and there was nothing in the accompanying literature to suggest I needed to register it. I returned it in the original packaging in which it was sent to me. It reached me safely in this packaging, which is anonymous and does not suggest it contains anything valuable. They got my debit card details and it looks as if they have been using them to help themselves from my account, to pay off what they say I owe themThe London Mint office obtained my card details under false pretenses. Their form clearly stated that my details would be used for ONE transaction only, that of the coin I originally purchased. I did not at any time agree to purchase another coin. It was their decision to send the coin
OK let's try to actually be of some help here.
The London Mint Office (LMO) sent out a coin on approval, OP returned coin and so didn't pay for it. LMO later claimed payment of £100 including interest and late fees and charged, and charged said amount to OP's debit card.
Either LMO held a continuous payment authority on that debit card or they didn't. If they did have a CPA then there would be no question of any late payment charges since they could have charged the debit card when the amount was due. And just because LMO had a record of OP's debit card details does not give them the authority to process a charge against that card in the absence of a CPA. Conclusion - this was an unauthorised debit card charge - OP should contact their bank and insist on a chargeback.
What T&C's LMO have on their website might or might not be relevant. OP may not have purchased online for one thing. (LMO also sell their products via direct mail as it happens.) For another thing, T&Cs are always subject to the Unfair Contract Terms Act. If a company sends out goods on approval and uses a particular carrier as their agent, then one would have to presume that said carrier is also their agent for the purposes of returning said goods. Conclusion - non delivery of returned goods is an issue between LMO and their carrier. (Or that would be my argument at least.)0 -

That might be the case if LMO specified which carrier and which service to use, and the OP followed their instructions, but that isn't what happened.
The London Mint stated that coins to be returned should be sent via Royal mail (this was done), and that they should be sent via registered/recorded mail (this wasn't done).
I'm sure that the whole reason for them specifying a signed for service is to avoid problem like this which could be very easily sorted with a simple proof of delivery.0 -
Thanks Wealdroam, for admitting you are not here to help, and thanks also, for finally asking a helpful question, albeit one rather strange coming from a person described asNo. Why do you ask?
But does the one I quoted help anyone?
"people with thousands of posts, along with 4 figures worth of "thanks"
If you really need it explained to you, the link I posted is helpful to anybody considering doing business with the London Mint office as it allows them to see what they may expect from the London Mint office and probably take their custom elsewhere.
FYI I have written to both London Mint Office and their lawyers today with my proof of posting. We shall see what happens.0 -
Yes, I did need it explaining... thanks. If you really need it explained to you, the link I posted is helpful to anybody considering doing business with the London Mint office as it allows them to see what they may expect from the London Mint office and probably take their custom elsewhere.
But the question I asked was how does the post I quoted help anyone?
To save you the trouble of looking back, this is your post that I was refering to...
The link you supplied simply does not work for anyone else but you.
Sorry I had to explain it to you in so much detail.
Indeed. Good luck.I have written to both London Mint Office and their lawyers today with my proof of posting. We shall see what happens.0 -
Well I don't know how I could possibly expected to know that. I don't know why this forum makes it so difficult to link to other threads relevant to the current one. That would seem to be a basic requirement. The link you supplied simply does not work for anyone else but you.
Sorry I had to explain it to you in so much detail.
