Hi everybody, just to update you. I spoke to their lawyer on the phone. He said they have an office in London and an office in Cardiff.. He will check to see if the coin has arrived at the other office. If he comes back to me I will ask the London Mint office to state categorigally in writing that they have not received the coin. That way I should be clear if they are later investigated for fraud.
  • Keep us posted - I suspect it's just subterfuge on their part (where did this Cardiff office suddenly come from? Why would it have ended up there unless they had forwarded onward themselves?)

Will do. Apart from anything else: It's just appalling customer service, you need to check the other address BEFORE you put the solicitor onto the job.
  • They've unleashed the solicitors onto us now with harrassing phone calls and started adding charges to our account
  • Luckily Im here. There solicitor cant get more then £80 from you so hold on to your seats.

I would like to know what the Solicitors want from you and why?

You need to write a letter to the solicitor stating what they want and what are there intentions and what is there target resolution.

I did not return the coin by registered post because I did not refer to their website when I received it. The coin was not sent to me by registered post

If they didn't send the coin by a traceable method to you in the first place how can they prove that you received it and owe them money?

Unfortunately it seems that you have confirmed receipt of the coin by sending them a proof of postage for its return. I would have told them to prove I received it in the first place or see you in court!

Thanks for your offer of help! :j

The solicitors called my wife today to give her a good scare (all the account details were done in her name). They said the current balance is £44 and asked if she'd like to make the payment there and then. She explained that we had sent the coin back so they have asked for proof of postage to be sent to them.

What concerns me more than sorting out this mess (which will either be resolved by them dropping it, or my paying of the balance begrudgingly) is the fact that they, at any point they like, can make an 'admin error' and send out another coin to me (my googling on this con company have found plenty of examples of this happening), closely followed by more demands for payment. Then I'm faced with either going through the hassle of sending it back by special delivery, as well as sending them the proof of postage by recorded delivery if they deny receiving it later, OR I play the game of telling them to come and collect their unsolicited gifts. OR I play it silent/dumb and who knows how many times their debt collectors will nag us - they already have all our contact information.

Either way it's just a huge ballache and they are clearly geared up to play the numbers game on this and just chase hundreds of people for these charges, knowing that they'll get a certain % to pay up.

Was also interesting that they send the coin, send one letter a month later under the title of FINAL DEMAND (wasting no time or paper costs) and the next contact I had from them was from their solicitors. Would have expected any normal company to at least send a few invoice reminders before getting the legal guys on the case!

Write recorded delivery letters to all the addresses you know about london mint.

If it is a limited company then you should send it to the registered office.

Then cancel the subsrciption, and phone up to see what the terms are.

How are they always taking money out?

Are you saying you still have the coin? if you do you will have to send it back recorded post.

If you have sent it back in the post, then you need to show some proof, do you have any proof?

What was the original cost of the coin sent to you?
