  • Hi taxi....hope the PC stuff is sorted very soon. Shame I don't live in Blackpool as I would have willingly popped around to stick my nose in and see if I could have done anything before you had to start calling people in. :(

Wow the complaint with Tiscali is now with the CEO! Can't get higher than that - if he/she doesn't sort it, no-one will.

Evening all..well I am up and running now....my ...old computer guy did it...I bumped into him ...it took him quite a ong time...would you believe PC World Techguys never even switched the network card on in my desktop!!!!!....well I've now had my £89.99 refunded to my CC today as I have been in to the shop and was rather loud while customers were about...there was a lovely big queue!!!!!...so will have to keep an eye on my CC as it's due to be refunded within 48 hours...LOL...
It's nice just to sit and chill tonight...I've felt so stressed out...I came back from PC world and DH had to call a friend of his that knows about electrics as DH stupidly plugged a hoover into the brand new surge and spike extension and blew the back box and wiring so guess what I have to buy tomorrow!!!...luckily the surge and spike is ok...ah well....wonder what will happen next?
Tiscali are due to phone tommorow I think..so will see...
  • Oh my GOD I am gobsmacked that they didn't even switch the n/w card on. Talk about schoolboy error! SO glad you went in though and got refund...too right!

Sorry though to hear about the next thing to go wrong! If it's not one thing.....blah blah....

Keeping fingers crossed that Tiscali is sorted tomorrow.

Hi LA......you are right on that front....I am alright getting on line with either computer but trying to access files off the desktop is another matter!!!!...it keeps denying me access....I don't know what it is and am getting really peed off...I really need someone that knows what they are doing...also when using the file sharing option(if I happen to get into it)...it goes really slow and says programme not responding...I spent ages on the phone with a gateway tech who had me remove google earth and something else google for it still to run as slow...he gave up as they can't give assistance across vista and xp!!!...I really don't know what to do...I think it may be something to do with user accounts...but I don't know what I'm on about...got to update my sig tommorrow
  • So sorry to hear of all the hassle you're having getting your computers up and running as you'd like them to be. As if you haven't had enough grief already with the Tiscali fiasco. Keep smiling though. I know you'll weather this like you have with everything else:beer: .

There's an interesting thread elsewhere on MSE where people talk about any company/shop which has caused them problems and which they'll never use again. Seems to me you could write a whole book about your experiences of Tiscali and now PC World.

Not sure how to link to another thread on here:o , but this is where you'll find it:

Home, Work & Play> Vent, Bent & Heaven Sent> Warnings & Rip-Offs> Shops You Would Never Deal With Again

I might see you on there sometime

  • taxi it sounds like (maybe...) some stuff is on the desktop which was put there by another 'user'. Then you come along and log on as you but you can see the thing on the desktop but you don't have permission to it because you didn't set it up originally.

Maybe! So frustrating when you can't see it in front of you (I'm talking about me) as I would love to help.

Oh God it had Google Earth on it did it? I tried that once - that came straight off!

Curious as to what else might be installed that's causing it to go slow....

Do you know anyone who works in an office where they have an IT Department? If so, can they chat up one of the techie guys or gals to have a quick look one evening? All you'd need to do is bung him/her some petrol money and they would probably sort out the desktop/file sharing stuff quite quickly......

Hi taxi - how maddening about all the computer problems. You poor thing, that would drive me mad. Luckily my OH is quite techie-minded and takes care of all that sort of thing in our house.

Hope things are going well otherwise and the debt is coming down nicely. I'll be updating my sig shortly with a nice drop in the total, 35k is not too far off now I'm happy to say.
    Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.62

Taxi, I hope your sleep pattern settles down soon - especially with you going back to work soon.

I look forward to seeing that new total, once you have updated your signature.
