Bitsy Would a torch help? The three boys have torches and just cost me some re-chargeable batteries. I also leave the bathroom light on for them but have slowly managed to wean them off the night lights - although that was hard and I felt like a right witch!!!!#118 DFW Debt freely Christmas 2012 Challenge0

RIE positive vibes honey I do hope you can sort it all out.It seems so hard for folk who are desperate for something that a lot of us take for granted sometimes .I lost my first after three years of trying when my brothers wife was popping out one a year and had to take a bit of stick from family memebers.Eventually had my eldest DD then two years later my youngest then lost the following one..My niece has had 5 misscarriages but finally they sported out what was causing them and she had a smashing chap in Harley street who helped her no end.She now has three little girls and a son.So never give up hope.I do feel for you.
B/B i too used to have the girls in bed with a book to read by 7.30 if only for a bit of breathing space at times My late OH used to work very long hours and often didn't get home till almost 9 at night from 06.00 a.m.so we used to make the week-ends children time and week nights 'grown -ups time:)
I have just finished my pottering painting and can do no more until it dries. So tomorrow will probably be another paining day.But its coming along nicely even if I look a bit like a kirby grip where I have been bending down.I watched Make do and mend with my veggie soup lunch and have enough soup left over bottled up for at least another 2-3 days lunch.
Chicken salad for dinner tonight from my tiny chook that I cooked yesterday with probably enough left to make a small curry for tomorrow nights dinner. So three days lunch and two days dinner all from my 99p chicken mega saving this week I think.Just going to grate some wrinkly apples to knock up a small cake from fruit in the bowl, will probably add some cinnamon to give it a kick.DGS ben will probably appear on the way home from school I swear that boy has hollow legs.Only one more week until my brother flies over from France I can't wait to see him.
Sun is really lovely today so I hope you all manage to get your washing dry.
have a good day whatever you are doing

off hand I know sunflower seeds, bananas, flax/linseeds and pineapple have high levels of melatonin. The milk I have only vaguely heard of apparently the cows were milked at night to raise the natural melatonin levels in it.
EDIT also found this: the body uses tryptophan to make melatonin and seratonin, so making sure he has enough food with tryptophan in it might be an idea. "chocolate, oats, bananas, dried dates, milk, cottage cheese, meat, fish, turkey, and peanuts. Less concentration is available in corn, cereal grains, legumes (peas and beans), flesh foods, eggs, dairy products, some nuts and seeds and in the casein component of milk. For the maximum effect with tryptophan, use a moderately high carbohydrate-low protein diet ...... " Might be worth doing a wee bit of research into it, and trying a glass of normal warm milk and a banana before bed? Also, lowering your body temp is said to be a main trigger to sleep which is why a warm bath helps: your body cools down rapidly afterwards, causing sleepiness, so make sure his room is cool, and maybe bathe him every night beforehand. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

A torch isn't enough, we have tried him with one.jackieglasgow wrote: »off hand I know sunflower seeds, bananas, flax/linseeds and pineapple have high levels of melatonin. The milk I have only vaguely heard of apparently the cows were milked at night to raise the natural melatonin levels in it.
Hmmm milk I think it will have to be. He won't eat bananas or pineapple (although I might be able to make a smoothie although he's very fussy about that) so will have to look at the milk thing.I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

I'm wondering if these melatonin-rich foods would help an adult with raging insomnia.jackieglasgow wrote: »off hand I know sunflower seeds, bananas, flax/linseeds and pineapple have high levels of melatonin. There will be other things which might be more palatable for you than a five year old LW, I just said the things off the top of my head I know I can get past my boys. Oats is one too. I don't see why it wouldn't work just as well for an adult. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

how about some sweetend hot milk and use a sprig of rosemary to stir it and steep it in it for a few minutes? That was suggested to me and it seems to do the trick for me.....sounds a bit hippy though.... :rotfl:But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green

Hmmm not too keen on giving him chocolate just before bedtime! I think the sugar might counteract any benefits LOL
Can't seem to find anywhere that sells this slumber milk......waitrose was mentioned and Sainsbugs but nothing on line. Think a trip is in order and I might make him a banana smoothing with his usual "pink" milk see if I can get it down him.
Thanks as always ladies, you are always on hand to help me when I need it. Really appreciate it
