  • How many people who do not have a vested interest in this have signed it?

It all smacks of turkeys queuing up to sign a petition against Christmas.

Isn't that normal, people take interest/are outraged by things that directly affect them & ignore/are just not aware of things that aren't that important.

    That's life.

  • to give those who don't agree with the petition a chance to vote against it -

The million person petition is factually incorrect and is basically a bunch of lies according to the sunday post -

More than one million sign “nonsense” petition

    E-mail lies spark
    road tax protest

Just shows it takes a lot to fool a Scot!

  • and if anybody watched the ITN News at ten tonight you'd have heard that the government have no plans to bring it in. They've been talking about ways to cut down on congestion on the roads and it was 1 idea that was mentioned but no plans to bring it in.

I think it's a great idea. Just as long as I can set up an IT company to do it for them.....

It's also not a full picture because in Greater Manchester it has been reported they are extremely keen on the idea and are planning a congestion scheme similar to London's and all parties seem to be very strongly in favour of it and I would be very surprised if it didn't happen :(

I didn't see ITN, but saying there are no plans is meaningless, they are spending millions on it, commissioning reports by Rod Eddington, running trial area's, mentioning it in the Queens Speech. It's on the cards, and has been for some time. I'm surprised it took a chain mail and a lot of spam before anyone noticed, it's been in the news loads of times, for the last 5 years at least.

If they have no plans, why are they blowing our money on it?

Labour like to spin out the phrase "We must have a debate about xxx", but what they mean is "We will do what we want", in a year or so, when the green paper turns white.

If they're going to do something to raise taxes for road infrastructure then they should just hike the petrol duty up massively.
    .

I'm for that! My 3.5 litre Range Rover uses LPG, at a luvverly 36p litre. You hoik your petrol up as much as you like. I pay less per mile than a Micra now!!!!

BTW, my vehicle has never seen Chelse, it's never seen London, it's never even seen a city.

  • Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to
the Pay As You Go' road tax. the petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the government to at
least take any notice.Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition. The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it.The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC,the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.If you are concerned about this Orwellian plan and want to stop the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website(link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Sign up if you value your freedom and democratic rights.
