I heard about this and thought you use it more you pay more...but the amount of duty added to petrol effectively makes that the case for every mile you drive you pay 4p or so more in tax. This would just make the goverment more money and I wouldn't disagree with it if it was going to be used for green purposes but it won't be.[FONT=georgia, bookman old style, palatino linotype, book antiqua, palatino, trebuchet ms, helvetica, garamond, sans-serif, arial, verdana, avante garde, century gothic, comic sans ms, times, times new roman, serif]A bank is a place that will lend you money if you can prove that you don't need it

Hello all,
This is the first time I've been back since I posted on this thread a couple of days ago.
I didn't realise when I posted the information, that this thread already existed. I thought I was posting a new topic, so I was surprised when I saw that my post was added to an existing thread. So, Martins site has sorted the post and put it in here. I would imagine the same thing has happened to the others who have posted the same information, that they didn't know the thread already existed. To me this is not spam, as some posters have accused. It is people posting something they feel is important, and would like others to be aware of, and done with the best of intentions. If you (we)are more informed, surely that has to be a good thing?
And, I have to say, it's been refreshing to see that a lot of posters are aware, and becoming more aware, of what the "Democratically Elected" government are doing in differing arenas (in our best interests?)
Best Regards,
Phil. What goes around - comes around

So are we to take your last comment as implying that the Government was imposed on the electorate and that there was some kind of military coup?0 -

That makes things clear. We were all under hypnotic suggestion. Bravo.
I must look to you next time I have difficulty with understanding the finer points of political life.0 -
Just seen this in my local paper, came here to ask people to sign, and found you have got here first!I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0

It was also a Thatcher/Major masterstroke.
Year after year of actual sleaze/boredom culminating with dear, grey John (when he could break away for a moment from bedding his own female cabinet colleagues) backing the right of us all to:
roll of drums, fanfare
Call up the 'cones hotline'.... as the big new Tory idea for the future economic and social direction of the country in the '97 election.

The million person petition is factually incorrect and is basically a bunch of lies according to the sunday post -
http://www.dcthomson.co.uk/MAGS/POST/news1.htm
Just shows it takes a lot to fool a Scot!
Are you serious? A petition not to agree with a petition??
Given the blatant monetary self-interest motive at which this petition is primarily directed, we would have to wait until a clear majority of the 20million+ drivers in this country had signed it - and even then we would have to take into account the fact that there are many millions of others who are not drivers and whose lives are being adversely affected by vehicle congestion, pollution, noise etc.
They deserve a voice at least as strong and the presumption would have to be that they would be in favour of moves to reduce congestion.
As a matter of interest, how open is this petition to fraudulent entries?0 -
judderman62 wrote:It's also not a full picture because in Greater Manchester it has been reported they are extremely keen on the idea and are planning a congestion scheme similar to London's and all parties seem to be very strongly in favour of it and I would be very surprised if it didn't happen

Get rid of the 1 way streets! most of the congestion is lost people trying to get off the bl**dy 1 way system and get home.0 -
