Do you read the daily mail by any chance?0 -
no mate i dont read any newspaper.going to stop adding to this thread now as i,m shocked that none of you seem to care that your civil liberties are being eroded away.i dont suppose 99% of the russian population had anything to hide either.tom188 wrote:I couldnt care aless. I think the media drives this paranoia in the so called Big Brother myth.
Does anyone really think there is an army of civil servants interested in knowing when and where you drive?
If you've got nothing to hide - who cares?
If they're going to do it for the right motives; reducing speed, catching wrong-un's with no car tax and insurance- I'm all for it?
i'm more worried about the 'cry foul' types - what have you got to hide?0 -
somebody sent this to me. I havent clicked on the link yet as I am afraid to because of viruses etc.
Subject: Proposed Car Tax - please read. I never send circulars but this will be really horrible[Scanned]
Please forgive the group email, but I urge you to read and act upon the following.
This really is very important.
There are only 15 days left to register your objection to the 'Pay as you go' road tax - which closes to petitions on the 20th February 2007.
The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at this time only 671,354 [Mark Leader] 680,000 people have signed it so far and 750,000 signatures are required to stop them introducing it.
Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.
Democracy in action?
The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month.
On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.
If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible."

This bit it rubbish:
750,000 signatures are required to stop them introducing it.
The site is legit, but a waste of time, Govt. will take no notice, unless they think it will lose them an election.
I'm confused - are you saying the gist of it IS true but that the bit about the signatures is wrong?

No its not a hoax, there actually is a petition the bit about 750,000 signatures required to stop it is rubbish though. If the government will take any notice is doubtful they do like to squeeze car drivers

Hi
If you are ever in doubt about something like this you could try the following two websites
https://www.snopes.com/snopes.asp
https://www.urbanlegends.about.com/
Microsoft also have an extensive virus etc database.
there is also a good set of general rules to test a mail if you are unsure
1. If it urges you to pass it on, its probably a hoax
2. If it threatens dire consequences, its probaby a hoax
3. If you have heard it elsewhere and with different names, its probably an urban legend
4. If it has a beginning, middle and end, its probably an urban legend.
5. If it happened to a friend of a friend, not the person sending, its probably an urban legend
6.If it says something must happen in a certain amount of time, then its either selling you something or its a hoax
Sorry if that sounds preachy but I had to change my email address not so long ago cos I fell for one of these idiot mails and got inundated with Spam, so I'm in crusade mode!0 -
