I haven't contributed much but it's time for me to leave this thread, we have decided to try for a baby as of now:). I need to say thank you for my brother's little boy who is 6 weeks old-we both felt we were ready emotionally and financially when holding him! So good luck everyone but I'm off, joining the TTC thread:).

    My, it's quiet in here!

I've had a very frivolous adult weekend of drinking and debauchery, and 36 hours of bed-bound recovery! We were lying in bed last night and I said "we couldn't have done this if we had kids..." and OH said "Course we could, we have 2 sets of grandparents and 3 uncle/aunt combos to pack them off to!" Point well made, I thought! :rotfl:

Today I'm feeling extremely wistful, of all things, about reading stories. I dug out all my old childrens books at my parents last week and I really can't wait to read all those wonderful stories to my own kids. I was a real bookworm as a kid and I still felt a little tingle of magic when I picked up some of them. :D

    Hope everyone is well xx

Oooh that's me to a T! I have my absolute favourite (really quite girly) books from when I was young on the bottom of our bookshelf ready to read to my daughter... if I only have boys I'll have to [STRIKE]steal[/STRIKE] borrow a little girl off a friend to read to! :rotfl:

I've decided to start a big clear out of our flat so when I do get pregnant the spare room is more or less ready to be kitted out as baby's room without the stress of making space first! First job is to sort out the bookcases in the living room getting rid of unwanted books etc so the smallest one can be removed to make space for my craft desk which is in the spare room and will hopefully be replaced by a cot! I then have to start on the wardrobes... which I'll probably still be working through once baby's walking! :rotfl:

Don't, I'm already in a dilemma about the nursery, talk about thinking way too far ahead!! We have a 3 bed semi, typical 2 double bedrooms and 1 box room, although the box room is actually an alright size (9' x 8'). At the moment the 2nd big room is a guest room and the box room is a study and dumping ground. I think the 2nd room would make a stunning nursery with minimal effort (it's got new carpet, it's a lovely apple green and white that's unisex, it has new built in wardrobes etc) but I'd also love to keep the guest room so that my family can keep coming to stay (who all live 150 miles away). I'd love to have my mum and dad there with LO and I know they'd be up all the time to see us, which would be limited if they had to stay in a B&B/hotel. I just don't know where we'd put all the stuff in the study if we made that into a nursery!

What I need is a loft conversion.... :D

Edited to add. Hmmm, just got out the trusty tape measure and I reckon you could squeeze a double futon into the study if we took out the desk but left all the storage... intriguing.

God, 3 rooms to ponder over would tip me over the edge! I'm an obsessive planner about everything (at the age of 12 when we went to Florida I FILLED a lever arch file with research about all the theme parks and restaurants etc!) so I'm going to be a nightmare nester!

That's me too, we're going to Florida in September and OH is going mad at the itinerary that I've already written up, which includes which shops I want to visit and where I want to eat every night! :rotfl:

We haven't got much choice really in our itty bitty 2 bedroomed flat, we could swap rooms I suppose, although both rooms are the same size so would be a bit pointless! Our spare room is a bit of a junk/hobby/dressing room right now so it really does need clearing and I'm going to have to figure out where to keep everything once we decide that it can't all live in there any more! We may end up getting a skip! ;) OH told me to get rid of my crafty stuff since I 'won't have time for that' once the baby comes along... hmph, I wonder if he'd feel the same about his xbox?! :p

    Hi Ladies,

I have been lurking for a couple of weeks now and thought it was about time I joined. DH and I had a serious chat yesterday after I had gone over the figures. We both want a family now and in the heat of the moment DH has tried to persuade to just start trying. So yesterday I did a little spreadsheet of figures and if we started trying asap we would be stuck in our one-bed flat until our first child was four - not an ideal scenario. And it would be even more of a killer if we had twins  (not in the family but that would be just my luck!). So we decided we will talk about it again on our one year wedding anniversary as we will have a clearer idea of where we are financially (DH is starting to set up his own business which could easily double his take home but if it isn't successful we will have similar income to now).

Just can't wait to get started but knowing we have a date to discuss it in depth, rather than just saying we want to, has reduced my yearning a little - got so bad at one point I was crying at least once a week over it! :(

    Hi Walby
welcome to the board! Everyone here is very friendly!
My DH runs his own business, he has been going for nearly 3 years now, so it has lasted, but sometimes it is a bit difficult to work out what money is going to come from where as his is so changable that I'm in the process of building up a nest egg for us to use when we (hopefully) have wee ones.
You made me laugh with your twins comment, that's what my DH says-just his luck, we'll end up with twins! my Dads a twin, so who knows..!!
