When I asked Dr he said just take folic acid but didnt say when. General consensus seems to be 3 months before ttcing.

Another good one to read (and it's free!) is this leaflet from Tommys, can't remember who told us about it first, but it is so informative, I reckon most of us on here have got it now!!
PS-RebekahR-tubey things is the proper medical term, of course :rotfl:

HA, tubey things. Brilliant. I got some folic acid 3 weeks ago but have yet to take any, waiting for my blood results this week (should be weds/thurs) and if we're given the go-ahead I'll start taking it then.

That being said we might be putting off TTC until December. OH has just been told by work that there's a good chance he'll be deployed in August (he's in the Forces) to a not very nice place for four months! We were planning on starting to TTC in August so that's our plans scuppered if he goes. Still, I'd much rather get it out of the way now than be worrying myself stupid about him while also being pregnant/having a young baby. I'm trying to look on the bright side that he'll be going just as I reach my debt-free goal, which will give me four months to save my !!! off (I spend SO much less when he's away!) and he'll build up good savings as there's nothing to spend money on out there, plus he gets bonuses for being away from home. All of which will come in very handy for our little maternity fund.
I'm not sure what to do with regards to coming off the pill (I'm on a mini-pill, Cerazette), shall I come off it now to give my body time to get back to normal or wait until after the honeymoon? I've got a couple of worries about coming off the pill beforehand, namely what if we're extremely lucky and it happens straight away; we've spent ages planning and saving for our honeymoon in Orlando and I don't want it to be ruined by feeling ill and being scared to ride the rollercoasters just in case, and I'm also worried about my cycle, I don't want to be 'on' whilst I'm there so I'm all achey and grouchy! But it seems like a waste of 2 weeks worth of 'honeymooning' (;)) when we could possibly make a honeymoon baby... Argh, I just don't know what to do!
I think everyone would do it differently but personally I'd stay on the pill and have a bloody good holiday. If you've saved and planned and stuff, it seems silly to "ruin" that for the sake of getting pregnant a couple of months earlier. Enjoy some couple time and then when you get home, you're all refreshed and ready to rock and roll! So to speak! The first time I came off cerazette when I was much younger I had a lot of bleeding for a few weeks and then got back into a normal rhythm within 2 months or so.

Thanks for the links Magicboo and Rebekah! I've just ordered the Tommy's book and I'm going to try to see if the library has that Fertility Awareness book, it looks to be very interesting reading! :)

Sorry to hear that your OH is getting sent somewhere Not Very Nice dreamdreamer, hope the 4 months goes by quickly and safely!

The more I think about it it'll probably be best to hang on until we get back, it will be like turning a new page once we get home and I really don't want to do anything that might spoil the honeymoon... although I don't know how I'm going to restrain myself in the giftshops, I'll be dying to bring home loads of Disney baby things but it could be a bit of a jinx! I could always claim it's for my brother's baby and forget to pass the things on! ;)

Shhh, don't tell OH but I have a whole bag of crap I've picked up "for a friend" and then forgotten to give them... oops! ;)

He's not necessarily going yet. Like most things military, they won't bother telling us until about 2 weeks before!

LOL at the Folic Acid fears! If I want to start trying in September shall I start taking it now or give it a little longer? I have much to learn about TTC, been trying not to get too into it yet in case OH gets freaked out! He's always nicking my vitamins so I'll have to make sure that he definitely leaves my folic acid alone! :rotfl:
Start taking folic acid as soon as you think about it and keep taking it. It builds up in your system and has an affect on how healthy your eggs are, so the sooner you take it the better. You don't need to worry about keeping DH away from FA either, as it's a good idea for him to take it too, for exactly the same reasons.

Oh and to the lady(s)? wondering about whether to get plain folic acid or an all in one vitamin, it doesn't really matter so long as you have 400mg of folic acid in there somewhere.

Folic acid helps your body absorb iron and such too, which helps with oxygenising your blood and making you generally healthier anyway, so there really is no reason not to take it, and every reason to do so - esp if you suffer from anaemia or heavy periods either now or when you come off the pill. :)

Thanks for the very informative post and the links Bigzippy! I have a feeling I shall learn much on here! :)

I'll go and buy some folic acid today, no time like the present to get my body in shape! Are there any other recommendations for getting your body prepared to TTC?

Thanks for the abbreviations :) I like baby dance LOL

Birdie if you haven't been already, all vitamins are 3 for 2 at Boots so yesterday for 6 quid I got 3 bottles of folic acid with 60 tablets in each so that is 6 month's worth :D

I am not sure of other recommendations, I am trying to get in shape for the wedding anyway so hopefully I can keep it up. I am sure the lovely people on here will have more tips :D
