    Hello Blondy

It sounds like our situations are similar - I'm planning my wedding (well more like waiting for the date to arrive as we are getting married in 4 weeks) then TTC in January too.

    When are you getting married?

BabyMad - We are getting married early January next year and going to start TTC mid Jan/end Jan once back from honeymoon :j How are you getting on with your wedding prep? Bet you are a bit stressed but excited now.

We would love to buy our own house before having a child however this is not realistic unfortunately, partly due to being stitched up in our pasts by our ex's we are having to start again and save for a deposit. We have decided to set a goal of two years and starting to save for this, will be able to put more aside once wedding is out of the way next year. We also have a fixed term on our rented accommodation and no price increase by our LL which is good. We want to move about an hour away once OH's youngest is officially a teenager and go to a place we both love.

Other exciting news, OH has applied for a day job fingers crossed he gets an interview. Does anyone else's OH's work night shifts/alternative shifts to you?
  • Good morning all :D

So it looks as though *maybe* in a month we might be TTC

The reasoning behind this is I've got 1 month left of my pill so we had a discussion whether I should renew or not and we decided theres nothing stopping us really. The things holding us back really was our loans, but this month I've overpaid £1000 on one and the other is just to my parents and is interest free so I can drop the repayments if need be. We are on schedule to repay both back next year so both will be paid off by the time I'm on maternity leave. I've rang our GP this morning and made an appointment for Monday morning to discuss it all and see if theres anything I should/shouldn't be doing. I know I need to lose a bit of weight and I'm working on that ( lost 4lbs so far ) and we're both eating more healthy and cooking from scratch etc.

Hubbys been busily sorting the odd jobs that needed sorting round the house, still a way to go but we're getting there!

So exciting but terrifying times ahead for us!!
New House... New Mortgage! February 2017: £144,000
    Current Mortgage Balance: £96,440.99
    2017 OP's:£5,935 2018 OP's: £11,956.00 2019 OP's: £11,988 2020 OP's: £1,998

  • Hi Blondy.

Not too long for you either then. We are getting married in October but we are having our main honeymoon in February and we are also waiting until during/after the honeymoon to ttc.

Wedding plans are going well thanks and I think we have everything under control now. Not too stressed yet but I am starting to get excited as there's quite a bit going on from next week.

Good luck with your saving for a house and fingers crossed your OH gets the new job - it must be difficult working opposite shifts.
    Got married October 2012 :j
    Hoping to conceive 2013 :D
  • How exciting chocoholic_chick - I can't wait until we are officially ttc.

    Good luck
    Got married October 2012 :j

  • Chocoholic, you must be over the moon!!! And yes, it is a little scary at the same time :) I wonder what my reaction will be once we finally take the decision to TTC. Probably this:
Other exciting news, OH has applied for a day job fingers crossed he gets an interview. Does anyone else's OH's work night shifts/alternative shifts to you?

Blondy, my husband is on shifts, it's all over the place: mornings, afternoons, nights... So when we have a baby, if he has not had a promotion, I will have to be the "stable" worker with the "stable" hours. But we can't complain, OH's job is a good one :)

Bazzi, that's exactly why we decided to buy. Luckily, we know the area as my FIL lives nearby. So that's why we bought straight away. Our mortgage will be £445/month. To rent the same type of house, we would have had to fork out circa £700/month  BUT, we have building insurance to pay now, and we have to put money aside for house catastrophes (broken boiler, etc).

As I said before, if you are in a stable tenancy with a nice LL, I don't see why you would need to buy a house before having a child. I'm French, and in France people rent way into their adulthood, have children while renting, etc. My parents bought their house when they were in their 40s :D But I think the main difference is that tenants are much more protected over there than they are here.
  • Ooo, and another 1lb gone by the way: getting closer to my goal weight :D
  • Anyone else struggling with the shall we buy a house before having a baby debate? So unsure what to do. If we buy a house it will take a while to save back up the amount we need to cover maternity leave and if we have a baby while renting it will take forever to save up another deposit!!
We were struggling with this... Especially after gettting married last year, we just wanted to get on with it!
In the end we decided to save for the deposit (which will be done by end of 2012) and a little bit extra next year , before starting TTC mid-next year.
By then we'll hopefully have found a place we like to call our home :D.
Our rationale is that we'll be in a better position to apply for a mortgage now while we're both in full time employment and with no dependants than later on. Although the house we rent is fine for us, we want a place we can decorate, with a garden and so on.

By the way, I missed the conversation about age / number of children...
I'm 30 and we are waiting to TTC our first child.

Oooo, another French gal: what are the odds :rotfl:

Ah yes, I forgot the bit about having "dependents" when applying for a mortgage. The amount Nationwide would lend us was greatly reduced because I am classed as a dependent given that I had to give up my job to relocate. We would have been given even less if we had had a child.

I really want to try my hand at decorating too :o I'm a bit ashamed to say that it motivated our decision to buy a house as well :o
  • No need to be ashamed, it's only natural. Don't they call it nesting?
