Of coursewhich is why I just got the one pack. If things aren't happening for us I'll donate them to a local refuge/charity well before they expire. Like I said, we plan on using reusable nappies anyways so will be buying them once we're pregnant.
Congrats on the new job though!! :T is it long until you start?0 -
Cinny -Thank you! I haven't decided whether or not to accept the job yet - need to have a good talk about it with my partner first because it'll mean moving house. If I do accept then it'll probably be at least a couple of months until I start because I'll need to go through security checks etc.
You're very virtuous planning to use reusable nappies - it's very MSE and so much better environmentally but I think I'll probably take the easy option and use disposables. I have a hard enough time keeping on top of our washing now, I can't imagine adding all the baby stuff and cloth nappies as well!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

I want to use reusable nappies tooThe main reason is because I don't use any type of toiletries or household products tested on animals. And I can't stand throwing stuff that can't be recycled :rotfl:

I was quite surprised because recruitment processes for local government jobs are usually painfully slow and I hadn't expected to hear anything until next week some time. Waiting for my partner to get home tonight so we can have a proper talk about it and decide what to do. They want an answer tomorrow so not much time to think about it!! He'll be a while yet so I'm yo-yoing between baking cakes (birthday at work tomorrow) and looking at properties near to the new job on rightmove lol.

I definitely won't be buying anything for a while...if I take this new job then I think it'll be another year before we ttc so that I can qualify for all the additional maternity benefits before going off.
Well done hun! Whatever you decide to do, you can at least be proud of yourself that they wanted you! And they didn't hesitate!!! Keep us posted!!0 -

Thank you! I had a good talk with my partner last night and have decided to accept their offerThe only downside to the job is that we'll have to move...I'm not worried about actually living somewhere else because I'm not attached to our current location at all, and the location of the new job means we'll have some really nice options in terms of where to settle, but I don't like the actual process of moving. Estate agents annoy me and packing everything up and physically moving it is a real pain. I've always done it mostly myself before but my partner says we can throw a bit of money at it and have someone come and do the heavy lifting for us this time :j

For all it's worth, I think you took the right decisionI didn't want to say anything before as it is not my place to influence people. But if I could find a job in a school I like in a location I like and with a timetable that could fit around my PhD, I would take it. It would mean waiting a bit longer before starting a family but then you'd have maternity pay, etc: AND a job to go back to, should you choose too.
I'm still looking myself, for a January start. So far not much luck but I don't despair: whatever the outcome, I will have something I want :rotfl:0 -
Forgot to ask: are you buying or renting?
I didn't like letting agents when I was looking for places to rent, and I don't like EA much more now that we're buying :rotfl:
Although to be fair our current Letting Agent is a lovely lovely guy and all repairs have been done very quickly. But then again I'd think we're nice tenants to have0 -

We're renting at the moment and will rent in the new location for a year or so before we buy....we have a deposit and could get a mortgage now but neither of us want to commit to buying anywhere until we're sure it's an area we want to live for a long time. Hopefully renting for a year will give us a chance to explore the area and find a village/neighbourhood we like for the long term.
We had a horrible time dealing with the letting agents for the place we are in now and when we were looking. I was shocked at the lies and rubbish they spouted. I'm sure there are some decent agents out there but I haven't met any yet!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

Not all our agents were great! We had one horrible agent when we were students. And yet, as student goes, we were incredibly well behaved: everything paid on time, flat pristine, etc.
Now our current agent is good but I reserve my final judgement for when we check out: will we get our deposit back? I believe we should, but you know LA and reason do not always walk hand in hand...
I really hope your next one is nicer!
We were really lucky. We're relocating somewhere my FiL knows very well so we had insider knowledgeThere was no way I would rent again. I'm so fed up of quarterly inspection, of being afraid to break something, stain something...
Anyway, spurred on by Optimistic-Mummy's example on her DFW diary, I decided to sort out my CDs, DVDs and old stuff. I'm going to try my hand at ebay... First with little things and then maybe bigger things! (like husband's old DS lite). I also found out where I could get the most money off husband's broken blackberry and my old T-mobile G1. I had no idea my old G1 (which looks like an antique now!) could fetch so much on CeX! So hopefully some more money toward the baby fund. It may wait till we're in our new place though, as I don't want the hassle of having to change address, etc.
There was a moses basket in my local bric-a-brac and I thought of you ladies: I was so tempted to buy it :rotfl: Silly, because I probably won't need a moses basket... Or will I? God, I really don't know anything about babies :rotfl:0 -

i think a Moses basket is personal choice tbh, its handy to have for LO to sleep in downstairs, but we're all on one level so with the next pregnancy it will go in a cot from birth as long as their feet are right at the bottom so they cant shuffle under the blankets which you do with a Moses basket too (have there feet at the bottom) their shouldn't be a problem but many people prefer to use a Moses basket or a crib as they are smaller for the first few weeks months. my LO had a Moses basket was only 7lb 4oz born so was around average weight. and he was only in it about 6 weeks 8 weeks max before he was getting too big for it. for that reason im not going to buy one again. because i can't justify if i brought one new they are about £40 and then another £20-£30 for the stand for the sake of a few weeks. but as i say many people prefer to use them for different reasons so it really is up to you xx200 weeks £25,000.00 / £7000 -
re moses basket- we are planning to use one for the first few weeks- in our bedroom and downstairs.
we got one (and a stand) for a good price
one thing i woud say- and that goes for cots too-- is make sure you have a brand new matress (not the same one you have used for a sibling or only used once by someone else)Is a married woman!! 23rd July 2011 Best day of my life!
