Guys
I've just discovered this thread.
I'd been really panicky about TTC for the past 12 months or so as wasn't quite ready but at 32 years old I was also hearing a lot of stories from colleagues about how it's best to start sooner rather than later as it can take up to a year if not longer.
Well in June my husband and I thought we might as well stop using contraception as it will take a while........... and then at the beginning of August I missed a period and 2 preg tests showed positive.
Well our heads are still reeling from this news as we now come to terms with my being 9 weeks pregnant. Not that I'm complaining but it just shows how when your not entirely ready these things happen and the decision is then out of your hands! Silly as it sounds but with everything I'd been hearing made me think that I wouldn't get pregnant until some time next year anyway....0 -

Oh Gosia! What a great surprise! It's true, everyone is telling me "start now, it could take time, etc". But then again I could get pregnant within a month and then what would I do? :rotfl: (although not very likely with PCOS)0 -
im a young one. im 20 and have a 3 year old with my partner of 5 years. school sweethearts... LO wasn't planned. i was only 15 when i fell pregnant 16 when i gave birth. and had no support from my parents. but we have come through the other side and proved everyone wrong. i am currently studying for a degree and DP has just passed all his police training so is officially a police officer. we weren't going to have another child for a while, we both loved being parents but both being still only 20 an 21 are young. but due to my health we decided once the debt is paid to bite the bullet, in case we loose our chance and its too late. we just want to give our LO a sibling. if i can have more children after its a bonus, if not at least our wishes of LO not being an only child have been fulfilled (hopefully)... i hope no one judges us, i know we are young but we live in our own place and provide for ourselves, no benefit handouts except child benefit. im proud for how far we have come. we've had to go through a lot especially with my family and i am proud to say we have came through the other side x200 weeks £25,000.00 / £7000

Why would we judge your Optimistic-Mummy? On the contrary, I applaud your attitude to life and your and your partner's hardworking ethics. If anything, you're much more mature than me and my husband combined!!!
I have a friend who had a child quite young too, with her school sweetheart. They are now married with 3 children. She has a lovely job as a teacher, he is an electrical engineer and they live in a lovely house (for which they are building an extension as we speak!). They are hard workers, just like you and your partners, so be proud of what you achieved! :T
I think you're very sensible as well to want to deal with the debt first, as it must be a very stressful situation.
What are you studying at university?0 -
im doing a bachelors degree in heath sciences ... i've done my a levels. i want to do a 4 year medicine degree once i've finished this degree. im currently studying with the open university so there isn't any child care cost at the moment. x200 weeks £25,000.00 / £7000

OK, I have learnt something new regarding parenting... What's all this malarchy made of "party bags" for children's birthday parties? :rotfl:
I hope I'm not offending anyone, but it's just so alien to me! What's wrong with inviting a few best friends around, have homemade cakes, buy a bag of sweets and a few bottles of fizzy drinks and spend the afternoon crafting with salt dough? :rotfl:
My neighbour told me she had a party for 19 kids for a girl's birthday and was wondering what to do for party bags! After querying the nature of the aforementioned "party bags", I asked her why she invited so many kids? Apparently, you have to otherwise the other kids' mothers would take umbrage and not be so nice at the school gate
I am never going to fit in with other mums if even primary school is full on politics and diplomacyAnd that will probably impact on my child too... Or was my neighbour just a bit melodramatic and over the top? Please reassure me...

WOW, just WOW. I am student too (part-time as I was working until August). And I don't know how you can cope with studying AND a young child!
And such ambition too: I really admire that. Once I'm finished with my PhD (nothing fancy, I promise!), my dream is to one day to a Physics degree through the OU. I just love studying
It's interesting what you said about childcare cost being £0. This is the reason my husband is using for us to have a baby asap: I can stay home with the baby and study (if I can sleep!). But I don't know if I could...0
