  • Morning ladies, I hope everyone had a good weekend!

Trina and Hopelass - I'm so excited for both of you! I may have to start lurking on the ttc thread when you leave here to see how you get on lol.

I like the discussion about names...glad to know I'm not on my own with that! I've had a girl's name picked out since I decided I wanted a baby (about 8 years ago!). I have no idea on boys names...I had one I used to like but it's been used by a close relative so it's off the table. I think it'll be my partner's job to name a boy!

We had a chat over the weekend about the job I've applied for and future plans...the job would be good for a lot of reasons but would mean putting off babies until maternity benefits kick in. We've agreed that 'I'm not getting any younger' and that we'll have to take a lot of things into account when deciding about the job if I get offered it.

I hope the week gets off to a good start for you all! x

Same here! There is one girl name that I LOVE (actually there are 2 but one of them is my husband's ex's middle name :rotfl: so a big no-no). I have one boy name that I like, and every pupils I had with that name were lovely (I hope I have not just jinxed myself: touch wood :D ) But they have to be spelt the same in French and English and it's not easy!!

Same here, and this is partly what makes me a little anxious. And it's even worse because I don't have a job... So do I wait until my PhD is finished and I have been working (if I can find a good school) for my employer for 1 year + ? But then when will that be? I don't think I'm really old (29), but it worries me. Although as a teacher I can still add to my CV by doing exam marking and conduct oral exams. My husband seems to think we shouldn't wait: what a surprise... Anyway, I still have this stone to lose and I have to get fit (and that may take a few more months!!!) xxx

Oh hunny, big hugs to you :( It must be awful to see your spare money go into repaying debts when you could be starting a baby fund :(

I used to be a big spender too, but having "financial" goals really helped. I even created cardboard "thermometer" to track my savings :D

I don't really know what to say re the debt, but I think a virtual hug is in order
:grouphug: (maybe it's my twisted mind but I find this smiley a bit dodgy... :rotfl: )

I already have two boys but can only seem to pick boys names!

I did have one girls name but then found out its the name of the main female character in 'the book'!

Got my interview for my new job on 18th Sep Im really nervous. On the plus side if it doesnt go well we can get straight back into TTC!

  • Congrats on getting an interview amus (no easy feat these days!) and good luck!

optimistic_mummy - if you feel really bad about the money you spent then why not cancel the order? There is plenty of time until Christmas and I'm sure there will be lots of bargains to be had in the run up...if you save a little bit over the next couple of months you could buy gifts with money that is in the bank instead of using credit and that always feels better.

If you don't think you'll be able to save enough to buy gifts then maybe you can come to an agreement with family and friends about not buying this year or setting a limit for what people buy. There are lots of good low cost gift ideas on the special occasions board x

That's brilliant that you have a plan. I see you have a change jar too. I just counted what we have in ours and it's just under £50 :D

When you feel like you're feeling depressed, think of how much you'll be able to save for baby once you don't have to give your money to creditors :)

What book do you mean? The Bible? :rotfl: Talking of Bible, I love the name Eva but apparently, it's not fashionable in England! :o

And regarding the job. a) good luck :D and b) that is what I tell myself. If I don't get a job for January then we go straight to TTC. We just took this decision actually. :)

You could try making some as well? We will be pretty skint because of our house purchase (we want to build our savings back up again so every spare penny will go to the ISAs), so I am going to set a price limit on presents I buy and try to make the rest :) Do you like crafts? :)

well we're paying back around £400 a month give or take a little to try and get it paid off ASAP ... so once its paid will be able to afford more for DS and for the little bundle when it arrives.... i havent got anything of DS's as i got really depressed and as a release... sold it all, the only thing i have is his first baby grow in with his baby book. i dont have 1 single peice of baby equipment but DP and MIL have told me not to worry and that i can get it all again weather its second hand or brand new.. the only thing i want new or in really good condition is a pram and a brand new mattress and carseat... i dont mind if everything else is second hand as long as its in good condition :)
i've already got it all planned for when we have another bundle of joy to love, cherish, enjoy and create loads of happy memories with... but like people keep telling me it doesn't matter how much you plan it never works out how you plan it ... we can at least try tho ... theres no harm in trying, you learn as you go along and do whats best at the time :)
