Haha never watched an episode as I was worried it would put me off!

Had some good news today, turns out the fixed rate on our mortgage ends sooner than we thought as theyre timing it from when we first applied rather than when we bought the house so is 6 months sooner than we'd anticipated and means its £160 a month less from October which is fab as it means we can get more money saved :)

Funnily enough, the thought of having a caesarean doesn't scare me, my sister had to have an emergency caesarean due to having pre-eclampsia (sp?) and the worst bit for her really was not being able to drive, and feeling like she'd missed out by not giving birth. The way I figure it, is if you have to have one, you have to have one, and there's not much you can do about it, but from the hospitals point of view it's a common thing to do (my cousins fiancee had 2 planned caesareans due to her weight) so try and take some comfort from that :)

Hiya ladies! Good to see the thread revived!

Hopelass/Lozza - I think one born every minute is great. I watch it for the opposite reason to Lozza avoiding it - I'm terrified of childbirth and all the things that can go wrong etc so I figured watching the show would desensitise me a bit and also show that for most women it all goes relatively well. We hear so many horror stories about childbirth because people seem to feel a need to share their bad experiences but people who have good experiences don't seem to talk about it as much. There are a few stories on the show that make me cringe but for the most part the stories are fairly positive.

Not much has changed for me...I've had a talk with my partner about future plans etc and I think realistically it'll be another year to 18 months before we ttc. That's about 17 months too long if you ask me but I can understand the reasons (wanting the business to be well established and to be in a family house etc).

Spoke to my mother yesterday and mentioned that I felt tired (because I've been working a lot, had a bit of a bug and haven't got a lot of sleep) but she immediately jumped to 'Oh, you know what makes a woman tired? Being pregnant makes you feel very tired.' To which I told her to shut up and that her other daughter is the one who doesn't know how to manage birth control (my sister has two children, the first when she was 16 and also had a few abortions). If I didn't want a baby as much as I do then I would choose not to have any just to spite her!

Anyway, time for me to get in gear and get to work, hope everyone has a good day!

    Hey Peeps

I posted on the thread quite a few pages ago now. Waiting to TTC is definitely limbo-land. I think OH and I are in the same boat as you browneyedbazzi - another year or so to wait. Maybe TTC next Autumn when this dratted PhD is supposed to be finished, or nearly finished. Am 30 now and feeling the pressure so have ditched the idea of getting a job first. That could take years! So we will just have to manage somehow on OH wage for a bit. He is self-employed so a bit risky, we are working on saving 6 months wages each for extra security.

My implant comes out in September though. It's embarrassing that I'm quite excited about that :j

    Hi Lara

At least you have a timetable... next Autumn will come so quickly and then we'll all have our fingers crossed for you! I totally understand about being excited about having the implant out... I was exactly the same lol, although I think I may have been a little overexcited as it was causing mood swings :rotfl:

I understand the self-employed OH thing too, DH was self-employed for 10 years or so and only got a more secure job this year. It's so unpredictable and worrying when you're not sure how much incomings are going to be from one month to the next; I think it's probably a really good idea to look at getting a good level of savings, just so you don't stress... and if you end up not needing it then you can go on a shopping spree for some super-cute baby things!

The pressure from people to have a baby is ridiculous, I'm only 25 and already a good number of my friends (and little sisters ) are pregnant or have babies, and ever since I got married it seems that all I ever hear is 'when is it going to be your turn?' I imagine this is only going to get worse over the next few years so have a lot of respect for the ladies on this thread who are in their 30s and still have the fortitude to wait until the time's right for them, whether due to finances, work, relationships or whatever.

Bazzi - I thought maternity benefits started after the second week of employment - i.e. if you got pregnant a month after starting a new job, then by the time you delivered your maternity benefits would have kicked in? I know this isn't ideal, and many employers may have different schemes, but there's actually a relatively small window where getting pregnant whilst changing jobs would make a serious impact.

As for giving up everything else when you become a parent, obviously children take up A LOT of time and energy, but I think you're right to say it's important to have other interests and 'me time' with friends. I think a lot of women forget that they're an adult who has the same social needs as anyone else as soon as they become mothers; sounds like you definitely won't fall into this category so there's probably no need to be worried about friends b!tching :rotfl:

Hopelass - I agree, waiting to TTC is definitely like being in limbo, although I must confess I bought a fertility thermometer and diary, and signed up to Fertility Friend so I can start geeking out early! It feels like I'm preparing myself lol so I don't get too stressed out by waiting. I've also started on the sparkle and weight loss challenges to try to get my body in the best possible shape for carrying (and running after!) a little one. I agree as well that concentrating on events that would be cancelled / changed if pregnant is really positive - i.e. I'm going to a couple of 30th birthday parties and plan to go snowboarding early next year, both of which would be very different if pregnant.

My new job is in the unit where they film One Born Every Minute so I see watching it as job research :p

amyloufoo - wow, I'm jealous of your new job! will we be seeing you on tv next series? (please tell me there will be a new series!!)

I think you're right about basic maternity pay, but where I work they offer additional maternity benefits for women who have more than a year of service and there's a massive difference between statutory maternity pay and the additional benefit. It would be a shame to give that up really because I feel like I've earned it now lol

    Hello and happy Monday ladies!

How is everyone this week? I woke up to a text message from a friend saying that her baby girl has arrived...two weeks early! Both are well and I'm so pleased for her because she had all sorts of problems conceiving and had all but given up hope. She lives quite a long distance away from me so now it's time to start planning a trip to visit and meet the little one :) I'm sure my broodiness will be pushed into overdrive over the next little while lol

Have to say - that won't get any better when you are TTC - my best friend had her little girl last week and (I'm ashamed to say) I've had to hide her in my news feed. I don't begrudge her in the slightest - the baby was much wanted and longed after but there are 2-3 photos a day going up and I couldn't hear a thing above the deafening sound of my womb clanging at me. We're popping round later on this week (if I can persuade DH) and I'm trying to prepare myself for the "It'll be you next..." comments!
