LittleMoog - I had acne in my 20s, and when I came off the pill a few years ago (I kept forgetting to take it...) I started getting spots but they settled down. I had to take provera for 4 months recently and they came back and were horrible... Something to do with oestrogen elimination apparently (so loosing weight can also contribute) but once the balance is right it should be OK. In the meantime, if you've got spots and dry skin at the same time, try oil cleansing. it was being discussed on the OS board somewhere and it turns out lots of ex-acne sufferers who've been through all the hormone and drug treatment to solve the problem use this and love it. I've been back on it for a couple of weeks (I'm using up out of date flax oil that I can't use with food) and my skin is much more settled.

Thanks for that, it looks interesting. I'll give it a try if things don't improve in the next few weeks.

Last night and this morning I've applied my stronger moisturiser to the dry areas and used a lighter one for the normal/greasy areas and it's looking a bit better, less red and patchy on my cheeks and my spots are less red and angry looking.

  • greenbee - how often do you do this? I might give it a whirl as I too have never had great skin.

Anytime I would normally wash my face :D
  • Cool - I just wanted to check as the lady on that link said 'not too often'.

Thanks guys, you're my skincare gurus! ;) so weird to suddenly have to learn all this skin stuff at very-nearly-30.

It's just a result of a mis spent youth.

Might also explain where some of my debt money was spent in the past! Trying out product after product! If only I'd asked for testers! (haha, I nearly typed that as testes first! :rotfl:)

The dermatologist said I should let my skin tell me what it needed. So if it feels clean and happy you don't have to do anything. If it feels grubby or dry or stressed then clean it. Normally I wipe the oil on, clean my teeth etc then wipe it off. If I have a bath I'll do the whole relaxing with a hot cloth over my face thing. I'm going to try bit for OH's back too, as that gets horrible when he's stressed (remember stress influences your hormones).

For anyone struggling with hormone balancing, I have a problem with too much oestrogen and not enough progesterone (hence the provera to undo the damage and mirena at the moment for maintenance), and have been given a supplement called Estrobalance (the expensive metagenics shake, not the cheap holland and barret tablets sadly) which helps with oestrogen elimination. Apparently wild yam can be used for the same thing, but obviously take advice.

Better go an call the surgery, I need a coil check as my body has spent the last three weeks trying very hard to get rid of the d*mnd thing!

Good thanks. Hungry, but good, and it's nearly home time! WOOT!

Heading off to collect my package of Yankee Candle stuff that I ordered the other week too! :D Only one candle is for us, and the other candle, and the glass lamp set thingy, is for a mutual friend :D Still, I can't wait to light our candle!

I love that OH loves scented candles. He's very typically 'mannish' in a lot of ways, but loves the scented candles! :rotfl:
